Here it is. I've been awarded the option of being able to buy an air rifle for a Christmas present. It really needs to be relatively cheap, but not really low so that it's bad. I was wondering about these Three: Crosman Phantom 1000, Crosman Quest (literally same thing as phantom except for bod and price), and a Crosman 1077 AS-- Semiauto CO2. The Quest/Phantom are Break-barrel, and obviously the 1077 is semiauto

^ Quest(1000fps)

^ 1077 semiauto(~625 fps)

PLEASE- if you think these are bad and have a better suggestion, PLEASE post your idea.
Not too expensive though.
Also, please post some pellet suggestions, good enough for very decent accuracy and punch (plinking in mind )

What are you planning on using it for?

Just the occasional (every day or every other) plinking around. Going to the gun range at 30m.
general plinking

(tin cans, eggs, apples, crates, fence, bottles w/ water, dry wall, long range plank, etc.)

dont get co2.

what exactly is your budget?

@ $100 that quest is probaby as good as you'll get.  the wood stock looks better.
this one would get you the rifle and a cheap scope for $100.  not that you need a scope, or should use one @ 30 yards.

@ $200 I'd highly recommend an RWS model 34 very high quality rifle.

Well, thanks for the input. CO2 isn't the way to go I guess. I'm just torn between the Quest and Phantom. Buying online isn't an option, and the stores nearby my home is Joe's Sports Authority, and maybe Wal-Mart.

edit: my budget is around $100.00

why not?  buying an air rifle doesn't require an FFL.  just an adult to make the order.

Knowing my parents and their attitudes

The problem is they would never order online. Only going to the nearby shop

What do you think, quest or phantom?

Not implying that your weak or anything but just build a spud gun its cheaper, does more damage and far surpasses an air rifle in overall leetness

I've bought one quality spud and have created 3 myself. I just need an air rifle for the pinpoint(hopefully, not gonna happen but oh well) accuracy and velocities.

I still need help deciding what pellets are superior for a Quest or Phantom.

Phantom has better reviews but on fewer number of reviews. I like the look of the Phantom over the Quest.  The semiauto looks funny with the larger exterior CO2 tank. However, the two reviews are very positive for it.

Gamo makes a 1000FPS model as well. It was more like the Quest model. I say that as you are going to a local shop as an option.

Are pistols being considered?

Uh, potato guns are illegal here in CT, and I'm guessing many other US states.  Just to let you know.  Air rifles, however, are not.

I live in WA, and as far as I know, they aren't illegal.

Yeah, the Gamo Shadow. I really want that cause it has 221 reviews at review centre, with 9.1 overall rating. But it costs 150-200 bucks, and that's a bit over budget. Pistols, even though they are cheap, is not what I'm really looking at.

Just need one more bit of help: What pellets should I use?
I've heard Crosman Premier Hollow Points are very good.
What's your suggestions?

I wish I had better advice for you on pellets. I have never experimented a lot with them. However, I did have some cheap bb's for my Gamo 45 and they were very bad. I got some of Gamo's bb's and it was better. So I would not buy cheap ones.

Other than that, try a multipack if it is available for you. That way you can try a few types without breaking your budget. Wal-Mart had some Gamo or Crosman 4 packs at one time. But the Crosmans you picked should work very well.  Let us know how the hollow points work. Best of Luck!

1000 FPS? You could kill someone with that.
