I'm considering getting a MicroATX motherboard instead of a big ATX one. I had originally planned on getting an ATX because of all the PCI expansion slots it offered. But then I thought to myself, what could I actually use that for? Besides a videocard and a soundcard, what else could I use those for? If the mobo has build in firewire and raid, of course.

Sound card, networks card and sometimes secondary graphics cards (8MB ones for desktop whiles watching movies/gaming). USB cards.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Finally someone else who understands the benefits of an Network Interface Card instead of using onboard ethernet.

I would be still using mine if that stupid fan on my video card didn't go ever so slightly over the adjacent PCI slot.

it's extremely slow compared to a dedicated NIC
I actually have a Killer NIC M1 on the way. Can't wait for it to get to me.

So do you honestly think it makes a difference?

My latency in games like CSS is 10-20 ms in denmark and 30-40 in the UK/Germany/France/Etc.

You don't need it to be faster than that -.-

And not to mention LAN is WAY faster than Internetz....

Tbh it's a waste of money if you ask me
