The concept of "racism" is a negative concept simply because of the oppression, violence, and humiliation that typically is imposed by the "racist". Whites have done this regularly toward blacks ... still do in America.
Typically, the negative traits of racism only come about from the powerful or the majority (or both).
So, racism from blacks is not the same as racism from whites. This is the reason why so many black leaders deny their comments as racist, simply because there is an implied impotence: they are a minority that is less powerful than the whites in America ... they do not have the desire/capacity to bring about oppression, violence, and humiliation in a racist context.

well be happy that in southern california schools throughout the 80's and 90's, racism is understood to be a problem caused by anyone, not just whites. cant speak about where youre at. I think it depends on how you define racism. I only accept ONE definition, and that is a very general one and it is "the elevating or the making of one race superior to another." On that basis, any "race" can be racist be it in offensive or non-offensive terms (blacks jump higher, whites swim better, etc, etc as "less-offensive" terms).
But the problem with who is and who isn't racist, is the double standard that let's blacks know that they can degrade, demean, and make inferior the white race all day long and not consider themselves racist. They actually believe that because their past of suffrage from racism/slavery qualifies them to never be considered racists, or because they're a minority they're not racist. This is baffling. What's worse, for many blacks (mostly uneducated ones), it is simply their culture of pride (the negative form of pride thinking you're better than someone) in their race that allows them to say the derogatory things they do and feel like continual victims of white oppression EVERY friggen day of their lives. I absolutely hate that shit.
It's hard to talk to blacks sometimes because quite often you get the superiority vibe from them or otherwise condescending verbage when they talk to you. it's about 50/50 for me throughout my lifetime [blue][EXCEPT BRAZILIAN BLACKS][/blue] where half of the black people (the less educated) are just plain rude, or speak in a condescending way that suggests I've oppressed them and their ancestors...whereas the other half treat you equally. I don't get this from Asians (and I've lived and worked in San Jose and San Francisco where Asians flourish), or from Hispanics, or from SouthWest asians (indian/pakistani/afgani, etc) or middle eastern people...just blacks. It's simply a cultural aspect of their lives to behave that way...and it pisses me off to where it becomes very easy for me to flirt with being racist...fortunately I am better than that and because of my religious principles and inert moral principles, I do not think of myself superior in any way to blacks. That and I have plenty of black friends whom I love as my own family...who share my opinion as explained above.
