It's just not that big of a deal, it probably took everyone on here to write out their respective posts than all the time wasted on these procedures combined. If anything they should be more stringent, to actually prevent shop lifters.

Yep, like putting guards at the check out, or use the incredibly cheap and foolproof method of using RFIDs on all products and rely on the actual RF detectors at the doors.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

Right now, you don't have to stop if the metal detector things go off. In trials, they've been proven to go off for such mundane and erroneous reasons that they are not used for reliable probable cause. And how many times have you seen nobody from the store respond when they go off. It's a ridiculous waste of money that customers pay for..just like receipt checkers..and other useless ideas thought up at their corporate levels.
