A fucking motherboard, you ask? YES, I NEED A NEW FUCKING MOTHERBOARD.

Finally, after a month of waiting for an 8800gt (thanks for that nVidia. really, good sales tactics.) it arrived. Before buying it, I made sure it would work in my rig: the card is pci-e, my motherboard has pci-e. My PSU has more than enough power, and the rest of my system is compatible. I even posted a thread here about it.

So, long story short, it doesn't work. Why? My motherboard isn't compatible. Why? the shitty VIA chipset. What the fuck? Yes, it's a one of a kind problem. really unique. Can you fix it? not without voiding my warranty.

Anger aside, I need a new motherboard. 775, DDR2, and it has to be compatible with an XFX 8800gt. budget is 100 to 150 euros. I'll be buying it in 2 weeks time.

Should do the trick I'd like to hope. I can't believe that that Asrock can't even handle an 8800GT..that's one for the books!

Yeah, asrock 4 core dual. Is shit with the ATI 3 series and I think the whole of the 8 series too. But it was cool because it had DDR and AGP. I guess we gotta do the full monty when we upgrade now instead of stripping our old comps. If only it could handle the new cards...

If you want the best stability/compatibility/lifespan. Get a good P35 based motherboard. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and I think you could get 2GB RAM with that, all under 150 E's

Nothing to lose, imo.
Try to fix it, if you fuck it up, buy a new one, unless you're going to be selling it.

I suppose you could go for Kyle's board but you might be stretching the budget. Also DDR3 isn't really made for P35 chipsets, I think. That's more of an X38 and higher thing. Also DDR3 is pointless anyway.

The 650i chipset boards usually go for about 80-120€ nowdays.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

ok, I don't have an answer, just another question that may be necissary to Lucien's question.

How could a mobo (with the proper PCI slot) not be compatible?  HOw can you tell whivh ones are or aren't?

I have never heard of this.

This is why I hate ASRock...
