With memory becoming cheaper and cheaper now a days, and with Christmas around the corner its time for upgrades!! So was wondering if there is a huge advantage right now of having 4 GB of RAM compared to 2 GB. I use my computer for gaming, browsing internet, and schoolwork and I'm using Windows XP. Also I've heard that WinXP doesn't recognize all 4 GB, so how much would it recognize?

You have to activate some switches within XP for it to see 4 gb.  Also, it is recommended to have 64-bit to really help it see 4 gb.

I use the /PAE switch in boot.ini for it to see the 4 gb and for it to actually use the 4 gb.  Also, make sure those Dimm's are activated in your motherboard's BIOS.

Ok, and is 4 GB necessary, or is it better to stick with 2?

Well, really, if you want to run 3 go for it.  4 is almost overkill if you dont have a decent processor or video card.

Google 4 gb on XP.  That's what I did to figureout the switches and such.

on xp 4 gigs is a bit much, unless you like running 2 or 3 games at once.

Isn't that a really bad idea. It'll slow your computer down A LOT.
