- US Military + Gambling....what are your thoughts?
They volunteered to go overseas and get shot at, let them gamble all they want. The money goes back to the military anyway, so everybody wins.
I liked having the machines overseas like the roadhouse at Mt Fuji
"Walsh eventually was discharged from the Army. He committed suicide after several failed attempts to break his addiction."
they shouldn't be blaming the machines, how about his superiors, people in charge of him, his squad leaders ........

If they want to gamble let them, and if it becomes a problem then the officers can stop it.
Gambling can lead to serious problems. Not just addiction... what about owing to the wrong people? What would someone do to clear their debt? Maybe sell a few nicked M-16's?
Sure it's very much a movie plot cliche but it's not improbable.

So we are letting the actions of few dictate the punishment for all? Let it be.
Malloy must go
Meh, a recreational activity that in turn also helps pay for other such activities. What else are they supposed to do. Gambling is open to the public too, look around, is everyone an addict?
Well... everybody except the addicts...S.Lythberg wrote:

Nevertheless, I agree that gambling should remain allowed. I just think they need to do more for people when they get addicted. They should have psychologists available for our soldiers.
Anyone who has served or is serving can fill me in on the details of this, if you don't mind. What is the nature of the availability of counseling for soldiers?
Little to none when I was in because the Marines were not very sensitive to your needs. I would not know to be honest, we spent most of our time (free time that is) wasting our money at the strip club instead thinking we might get laid.Turquoise wrote:

These people are adults. Congress needs to learn that.

All laws work on that very principle.deeznutz1245 wrote:

True enough... I'm against nanny state initiatives as well. I just think we need better programs for those who need help. Most gambling addicts at least ask for help when they need it. I figure it's the least we can do for our soldiers.FEOS wrote:
