I just bought mine (Saitek Cyborg Evo) and i tried it at once :]
Before Joystick i flew with keyboard (and keyboard ONLY, mouse NOT)
How long did it take you to be as good as with mouse&keyboard?
Because it seems to be very difficult with joystick to be good, but when I look at the planewhores it is possible, isn't it? :]

I flew with mouse and keyboard since the game came out, and only switched to a joystick a couple weeks ago. It took me 2 days to be as good and better with a joystick when it took me weeks to fly with a keyboard and mouse.

Same stick.
The software keybinding doesn't seem to work with BF2 though.

As for using the stick in BF2 once you get used to the twisting it becomes soooo easy. Even for choppers.

i went from keyboard ONLY to the Cyborg Evo Force, the same but with spring feedback and stuff(doesnt work in bf2 like) and it takes a few days to get used to, but i could never go back.. one handed flying except for throttle is amazing.. so much more control.. i prefer the keyboard only still for choppers tho because of the turn on point accuracy of it as aposed to the analogue aproach.
my keybinds work fine for my joystick
tip: bing button 2 to "Q-key down, mouse1 down, mouse1 up, Q-key up" instant "spotted" button for when ur tracking another fighter so it lights em up for an easier chase
they're fantastic once u get the nack, it can take a while if your used to the keyboard but once u crack it.. u'll never look back.

id recomend a sidewinder force feedback 2 if you can ebay one. return that toy of a saiteck stick and get a real one. you can get a nice one for under $100 now, considering it isnt made anymore, why i dot know, must of been costing microsoft too much to make a quality stick that didnt break after 6 months. ive seen a few on amazon but they are all over $300.ive used just about every flight stick or hotas system out there and it truly is the best flight stick youll ever use for bf2, ive been using one since bf42.

well for saitek joysticks,

it comes with this SST program that lets you bind keys to joystick

so if you want to, you can make the POV buttons to work as mouse and other buttons to whatever button you want to assign

it's cool

I use a saitek x52 flight control system which comes with a throttle. It has so many buttons.

yea, i've got X45 - the only thing i don't like about it is that the joy dosen't twist like the 52, the rudders are under the throttle instead.
