Right, so this happened at one of our clan game nights. We were on TS playing COD4 when I encountered one of my clanmates on the field. He ran his mag dry trying to kill me, then I rushed out of my cover and stabbed him. This is where it started:

Him: "Fuck these godamn 30 round magazines!"
Me: "Just lodge a complaint with the US military"
Him: "That some kinda crackpot joke against me Splinter?"
Me: "What?"
Him: "You heard me, you pull any funny shit about the Marines and your no better than those fucking Turban heads in Iraq"
Me: "Turban Heads? They're people too..."
Him: "So you saying you like guys blowing themselves to shit for a bunch of dirt houses?"
Me: "Dude...they arent from the fucking stone age"
Him: "It's where they'll be when I go back to shoot more of the fuckers. And if it wasn't those assholes keeping us in business, it'd be someone else"
Me: *stabs him in-game again*
Him: *leaves*

The things I'm trying to bring up here are why are we dehumanizing the "enemy" so badly? Ok, maybe it's to make soldiers feel less bad about having shot up someone's dad after he drew a weapon to defend his family from intruders. Hey, presto, he was a terrorist cause he had a gun in his house in a WARZONE.

How can someone be so cold that they look forward to shooting another human? I realize it might be a facade, but his tone of voice made it sound VERY different than that.

Are people so daft that they think I live in an igloo, Englishmen are all tailcoat-wearing, tea drinking snobs, Asians are all rice cultivating, sword waving ninja dudes, Arabians blow themselves up for fun and Americans are retards? Yes, I'm generalising badly, but the prejudice about people is omnipresent.

Where would the marines be if his statement is taken to be true? Korea? China? Iran? Heck, when have the marines been in inaction? There's always a monstrous, faceless foe out there for em. Be it Nazis or Commies or others, there's someone for the US to point the problem of the worlds to.

So what's your question about the Marines? IF it's about killing insurgents that are killing Iraqi citizens and other Armed Forces, well I'd do it, too.

What really strikes me as incredibly insensitive, is calling the Arabs "Sand Niggers"

To compound matters, most of the US forces are recruits from low income backgrounds and poorly educated minorities in a community, which are specifically targetted by the recruitment officers ie: African-Americans.

It's like Racism on a whole new leval. Insulting two groups of people at the same time.

@ SplinterStrike: I don't know if he has actually seen any action in Iraq, if he has chances are he saw things he really didn't want to.
So now he just isn't able to think of these people as people.

Matt: He has seen actions overseas from my understanding, and I can understand that war changes people, and not for the better. But to WANT to go there and kill them, how is he better than an insurgent? Killing for pleasure....it just isnt right.
"Sand Niggers" was used, but it's something I just dont care to repeat. Very racist and bigoted.

@ Teflon: Insurgents, sure I can understand the killing of those. But it's those "unexplained" civilian deaths reported by the troops that bother me. How many civilians are dead versus insurgents? When does the price of the many fallen outweigh the "gain" we're achieving over there?

Of all my buddies that are Marines who've seen combat, not one came back talking like Pvt. Johnny Dangerous. It's usually the young bucks who got their first USMC tattoo that sound like Billy Badass all the time.

That's why armies exist, yeah some may relish a little too much in their deeds but that's their function!, soldiers don't empathise with their enemy they kill them, welcome to war.. show no mercy for none will be shown.. Judging by the amount of allies that are "sand-niggers" over there. I doubt Soldiers would actually hate every single Muslim in Iraq or Afghanistan, I reckon they might go in with some prejudices but I doubt they come out with them. They are after all, training and fighting insurgents along side the ANA and Iraqi Military, even in the beginning of the WoT in 2001, they fought along side the Northern Alliance, yes, a bunch of "sand niggers".

I remember reading stories on the BBC from Iraqi's who were saying that the British treated them better than their fellow Iraqi's were. You always get a few cunts everywhere though.
