Grunts = bad ass mo fookers
Thanks for the token of respect. What I'm trying to say is... if you are in this just to kill people and get paid, doesn't that make you a mercenary?GunSlinger OIF II wrote:
defending peace by using peaceful weapons? firing peaceful bullets? peaceful bayonets? I know, theyre dull.
why would you even think of yourself as a mercenary. do you not know what a mercenary is? My friend, I could tell that you are young and that you have much to learn.. You are a grunt though, just as I was (still am technically), so I respect that.
Of course I know that if someone is intent on killing you, talking and peace goes out the window and you just shoot the bastard. I'm just saying I hope I will never find myself in that situation. I don't like the idea of killing a fellow human being. And believe it or not, there are other ways to peace than through the barrel of your rifle.
Then again, I do admit I am young and have never been shot at, so who knows.

War changes people but not that way, you're either psychotic or have to be hit on the head VERY hard to start looking forward to killing people.
The brother of my mate went to Afghanistan for half a year, sure he wanted to stay all the war long if it were up to him (his girlfriend broke down and made him come back, he was constantly extending his stay) but he didn't look forward to killing them all off, sure he said some nasty stuff but moreover wished to stay to protect his men and buddies. He didn't give a shit when he shot someone, you shouldn't think too much about that it only makes you go crazy - but if you start saying you'd want to kill off a few arabs for fun? that's crazy. So either he's an imposter or he just got fucked up really badly there.

inane little opines
I have been in and around the military all my life, most of my family served and so did I. I have friends who have seen combat and the nastiness of it and I have lost friends to it. My service ended before I saw combat and for that I am grateful as I can honestly say I don't think I could kill someone.
From all I have seen in my friends this smacks of pure venting. I say don't hold it against the guy but you might want to bring it up to him the next time you talk (outside of game when he's calm) and let him know it bothered you. Not that he vented and got pissed but that his rant was so repulsive in subject.
If this becomes a pattern though he may have a problem. It has nothing to do with his branch of service but totally with his state of mind. Continued verbal spews like that could mean he really and truly feels that way and no matter what, a soldier should not take pleasure in killing. I've always felt that a professional soldier does it because they realize the need and feel the sense of duty and honour in service.
Besides, the Marines above all other services I can think of in the US have the highest code of conduct and if his sentiments are true he'll be heard by someone in a position to deal with it properly within the ranks. Maybe some psych time? I would think someone with that kind of hate and itching to frag some baddies could be, if even in the slightest, a risk to his comrades.

Did anyone else get the feeling he pulled that conversation out of his ass?
First time I got to play with him. But I did piss him off pretty badly over the night cause I kept ending his streaks via sneak-stabs. I dont attend most of our CGNs cause I got out to my karate courses instead. This one was on a Saturday, so it made things simple.cablecopulate wrote:

Found out today that some of his friends have been WIA. Combine that with the fact that he was drunk (more info obtained from my clan) I probably took him the wrong way as a psychotic blood-hungry maniac. Still wasn't pleasant to hear, and my point stands.dayarath wrote:

I haven't met very many smart marines in my time.
The army guys always seemed to be the "under-par" or "super gung-ho" guys and the marines always seemed to be the guys who got beat up in high school and want to feel tough......or they're just really stupid.
U.S.A.F. is were the smart ones go. Navy sometimes too. Who needs ground ponders when you have the Navy and AF?

First, tell your clan buddy that he is taking a VIDEO GAME way too seriously.
Second, why are you guys having serious conversations during a video game?
Some people are idiots (like uber leet Clausewitz). Just as in these forums (and obviously your clan), some are always going to slip through the cracks.

You are obviously ignorant. Would you like me to list a bunch of Marines that have done far more in life than you have or probably ever will?c14u53w172 wrote:

And how good is the Air Force and Navy, without people on the ground to paint targets? Oh snap.
Real time satalites perhaps? UAV's? Combat Controllers? Navy Seals? Seabees? Ohh snap.stryyker wrote:
