So i'm going to London with my high school band to play in the New Years Day parade.  We're gonna be there a week and see lots of cool stuff, and i'm really excited.

But this topic isn't just so i can be happy to the public, i was just wondering what the British people here on the forums think that i should know before i go over there.  Like, what to look for, certain things to see or avoid etc. because we have 2 days on our own and i figure i might aswell make the most of my time

I lived in London for several years. Get ready for - Oh, youre an American, your government sucks, can you find your city on a map, etc etc. Dont worry, half of them cant even speak English properly. Good food as long as its not British. Besides that London is very international and you will meet many people who arnt even British. Never-the-less, it can be a lot of fun and lots to see. If youre into history go see the British museum at Russel Square, or the Tower of London at London Bridge. For art there is the Tate Modern or the National Gallery. Oxford Street is good for shopping. Enjoy your trip...

Apparently in India, saying you're "going to London" means you're going to take a crap.

Check out the science museum, particularly the hall full of WW2 aircraft and engines. They've got a bunch of rare stuff.

hahaha.

The further you head up North the more excitement you will have. You can even see it on a smaller scale, buy a compass and walk a mile North. It will get better and better.

I just realised how I've never actually done any of the Tourist London stuff. Like go to the London Eye/Millenium Dome/London Dungeon/Museums etc..

Get an Oyster card if you're planning on using the tube/buses alot. It's alot cheaper than buying tickets. Don't go into East London and areas like Mile End and stuff. It's a shitty part, but I doubt you will, you'll probably be in Central London most of the time. Also don't be surprised if you see alot of people that barely speak English.

Oh yeah

Don't fall into the river, or go south of it

Other than that, I dunno. Check out Oxford Street etc.. also if you're 18 you can drink, remember that mate.

When you go... go the millenium point, i went there once and went in the childrens play area and played with the toy pipes and me and my friend pretended they were sewage pipes and we were plumbers and this toilet got broken, and we had to fix it, but only i went, because my friend had to guard the pipe pit, because they were popular. Oh yeah, also go to some other places.

Keep everything you have with you out of sight.

If you use a camera, use the wrist strap if it has one.

Backpack on both shoulders, if it has a single strap, put it over your head to the opposite shoulder.

I don't want to worry you, but thieves in London target tourists and work in groups.

If someone approaches you, be suspicious, no one in London has time for anyone else without a reason.

Just be careful mate and stay in groups.

It's not all bad, I just don't want it to happen to you.

Have a look at the link to find stuff to do, I hope you enjoy yourself.

It aint China man, you're over exaggerating. I know they target tourists but he will probably blend in. Unless he starts shouting at people in the street with a heavy American accent about us leaving Basra or something.
