Backpack on both shoulders, if it has a single strap, put it over your head to the opposite shoulder.

I don't want to worry you, but thieves in London target tourists and work in groups.

If someone approaches you, be suspicious, no one in London has time for anyone else without a reason.

Just be careful mate and stay in groups.

It's not all bad, I just don't want it to happen to you.

It aint China man, you're over exaggerating. I know they target tourists but he will probably blend in. Unless he starts shouting at people in the street with a heavy American accent about us leaving Basra or something.

I'm not over exaggerating.

Tourists are easy to spot and easy targets for the thieves working London.

This is taken from the link:

Public Transport

• Plan your route before you leave with Transport for London's (TfL) online Journey Planner. You can also telephone TfL's 24-hour information line on +44 (0)20 7222 1234

• Only use black cabs or registered mini-cabs. See our taxi page for details
Travel Safety Tips

• Try to avoid walking alone at night, and try to keep to well-lit main roads

• Stay alert: be aware of what’s going on around you

• Try to avoid wearing headphones, as they reduce awareness of your surroundings
In Bars and Restaurants

• Many venues have Chelsea clips under the tables. Use these to secure your handbag or briefcase

• Make sure you keep your property out of sight and safely under the table

• Never accept a drink from someone you don't know and completely trust

• Don't leave your drink unattended. Keep an eye on your friends' drinks
Keeping Your Stuff Safe

• Don't leave your bag unattended anywhere in London, as doing so can lead to a security alert

• Keep your purse or wallet close to your body and don't carry too much cash

• When using an ATM (cash machine), check that no-one is looking over your shoulder and that the ATM hasn't been tampered with
Keeping Your Mobile Telephone Safe

• Keep your telephone out of sight in your pocket or handbag when not in use

• Record details of your electronic serial number (ESN)

• Inform your service provider and police if your mobile is stolen or lost.

EDIT: I grew up there, OK ?

No, you're not allowed flame-throwers to stop car jackers in London.

Be a tourist, just don't act like a tourist ... makes you a target and pisses off the locals (its the really loud American tourists that give you guys a bad name over hear.... as most things probably the loud minority)

Ok not in London but up country a bit in Cambridge the main thing that pisses me off with the Americans is in pubs!

Don't go into a proper English pub, order one off them 'interesting looking beers' and then loudly complain that its: too much (we sell beer by the pint ~half liter), shortly followed by "its too warm!", "It tastes too strong" - if you only like small amounts of cold taste free beer then just order a bottle of large out of the fridge!

(personally I hate London, but I don't like any big cities, but its like all capitols... lots of good points and loads off bad ones...depends what you like!)

All this crime stuff is exaggeration. Far higher crime rate up this way.

The main problem is rush hour; you get herded and trapped on the tube because your travelcard won't work.

lol, talk about scaremongering.

Its pretty safe unless you go to the dodgy parts, like every big city.

I recommend steering clear of the west end as it will be absolutely rammed with xmas shoppers.

Go to the London eye, thats pretty good, and there's a huge arcade on the way to the nearest bridge, which is always good to kill some time.

You'll probably wanna go to leciester square as well, there's some cinema's n crap there, although its pretty expensive.

Trafalgar square is always popular with the tourists, not to sure why. You might wanna check it out though.

Also if your over 18 there's some pretty decent bars n clubs to go to.

Don't be worried by what people are saying, I live there and go out in central all the time, in fact I'm going there tonight.

Just dont flaunt your belongings and use some common sense and you'll be fine, its no worse than any other big city
