Well, being that I listen to the type of music that Christians says will perpetuate my dissension into hell (Bloodbath, Amon Amarth), I would not care much for a Christian version of Rock Band (not that I'm an advocate of the game in the first place). Although I would not appose it because they have the choice to make whatever the fuck game they wish.
Reading this thread makes me cautious about this, but all the Christian rock I've listen to sounds absolutely terrible.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

I believe anyone can listen to any music genre as their hearts desire, bro. So if a Christian version of any music were to be released, I'll just feel great that the music is appreciated. Even if only to its buyer/s.
I am unfortunate to not having the opportunity to enjoy or appreciate Christian rock. But I do enjoy Rock in general. (metal, slow, death...etc)
Sorry to get off topic, but I am Muslim and something puzzles me. Why do u only listen to Christian music?

Note sure if you understand, but it's a game. It provides a different experience to actually playing an instrument, in the same way as Gran Turismo or Need for Speed is not really the same as jumping in your car and hurtling down the street, or how playing Battlefield or Call of Duty is not the same as joining the Army and firing real weapons at real people.S.Lythberg wrote:

Until you quit playing games of any kind in favour of the "real" experience, get down off your high horse.
You make a lot of good points in your post. Especially about country music and mariachi, as I was holding those to Ace's up my sleeve as examples, exactly how you used them.MrE`158 wrote:
What strikes me as weird is why "Christian Rock" groups feel the need to differentiate themselves so much from regular rock. Yes, you're singing about God, we get it. Have you tried something else? What other group of artists out there restrict themselves so much in terms of the themes that they're willing to explore? There are a few, the balladeers and boybands of the world also churn out the same repetitive themes over and over, for example.
I can understand wanting to express your faith through song, but is there any real need to self-segregate and do it exclusively? Surely it'd be better to not make such a big deal out of what you're doing and simply do it. Let people listen to the lyrics and figure it out for themselves. If your music is good, then people will listen and the message will get through. I'm bad with lyrics, it usually takes me a long time and many hearings of a song before I can really start to examine exactly what's being said, but if a song has good music and is well sung, I'll give it that time. Evenescances' "Tourniquet" was one I listened to over and over and then suddenly realised "Hey, this is all Christian-like", which is pretty fucking obvious if you think about it. But because I liked the song, I kept listening until I got it.
The quoted part is what I wanted to comment on though. There is a lot of Christian music, as I said before, that people don't even realize is Christian music. Groups like The Fray, Flyleaf, Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, Reliant K, and Lifehouse have all had Top 40 hits on the secular stations. Not every group tries to segregate itself. Not every group sings about God and worship in every song, "churning out the same repetitive themes." Listen to Flyleaf's I'm So Sick and you will see what I mean. But you know, I can listen to music I enjoy, and not have my 5 year old daughter asking me "Daddy, what does 'tap that ho bitch' mean?"
Oh, time to turn off the "good" music and listen to what? The Wiggles? Nah, my 5 year old likes Plumb better...

I'm very much an atheist, but I could care less if some company wanted to develop a Christian rock version of the game.
The day I stopped being an atheist was the day someone said to believe in myself.Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:

No, I don't mind. Frankly there are a lot of reasons... These are just a few:
1) I used to work for a Music Production company that dealt with a lot of Christian and Non-Christian bands. As a whole, I seemed able to connect better, and appreciate the Christian artists better. As a whole, they were more open, friendly and easier to approach. Most of the time, dealing with them from a business standpoint, they were just happy to be doing what they were doing. There was one band (I believe it was Morella's Forest, but have worked with enough to be unsure now, years later) who broke down on their way into town. A fan of theirs found out about it, and talked to a relative of his who was able to give them a part to temporarily fix their van. It got them to the concert, where it broke down again. They used every dime they made off the concert in getting the van repaired. (I believe it was a transmission, but again, it has been a while). A few friends and I took them out to IHOP after the show and treated them to dinner. Then they were on their way, headed to the next gig, no money for food. Nothing to their names, but still enjoying what they were doing.
I realize a lot of bands go through the same, Christian or not, but I saw it much more often (at least the high-spirits part of it) with Christian groups.
2) I like stuff that is a little harder. Unfortunately, the general theme of the "style" of music I like tends to be depressing. I went years listening to Nickleback, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N Roses, Metallica, etc and honestly, as ridiculous as it sounds, (Yes, even to me) I found I stayed a lot more depressed and generally had a worse attitude towards life. I listen to a LOT of music. From the time I wake up to my Radio alarm clock, and get ready for work, the 20 mile drive to work, the entire work day, the 20 mile drive home... Literally about 10 straight hours a day of music. I guess WHAT I listen to actually does get to me after a while. Positive music puts me in a better mood.
3) I have kids. I am not going to listen to kiddie music around them. I can't stand the Wiggles, Barney, Elmo, or whatnot. When I have kids, (Or parents, or friends for that matter) get into my car, I don't like worrying about what they will hear. "I'm a Bitch" is a catchy song. It bothered me when my 5-year old daughter walked into the room singing it one day after it had come on the stereo at the house. I also didn't like her hearing other, more graphic lyrics.
4) I really enjoy it. It really comes down to that.
There are more reasons, but these are really the core.
Edit: Oh, and another fun example: Picking up my Mom and Dad to take them somewhere and having Tenacious D's CD in the player. I was smart enough to turn hit the "mute" button on the steering wheel, but not smart enough to turn it off... So as we are driving down the road, my Dad asks "Why does your CD player display say 'Fuck her Gently' on it?" lol

I got suckered into going to a christian rock fesitval when I was 12. gross.

I wouldn't play it or care.
Edit: Plus this
To me, Christian Rock just seems to be yet another attempt by the church to get young people to go to church. And i don't know about in the US, but here in the UK it fails miserably. Just like all their other attempts to be cool.

Perfectly put.

I myself a Christian like modern day Christian Music. Not a fan of the game but I see no harm in making an expansion or separate game with Christian Music.

Wouldn't give a fiddlers fuck.
I personally think Christian rock is crap but that's just my opinion. I also think about 90% of all hip-hop is crap but there are millions out there who love it. Different strokes for different folks.

you are missing the point... you CAN learn to play a guitar without breaking the law. for sure in the time some people spend on guitar hero.MrE`158 wrote:

you cant drive like turismo without breaking laws. you cant join the army without possibility of death. so that's where the fun in playing games that emulate it comes from.
True, the amount of time SOME people put into Guitar Hero they could learn how to scratch the surface of actually playing a real guitar... But I have five or six friends that can come over every couple weeks, and we can pick up Guitar Hero, and they can play. From day one.Christbane wrote:

Yes, I play a real guitar, and have even played in a couple of bands. But that doesn't help them out any. It doesn't even get them any real equipment. They just come over and play a game at my house and we have fun...
The Top 10 Better comparisons would be:
1) Why play Madden? Go get some friends and play real football.
2) Why play BF2? Go play lasertag or paintball.
3) Why play Tony Hawk? With the amount of time some people put into Tony Hawk they could REALLY put-put around the neighborhood on a REAL skateboard.
4) Why play World of Warcraft? You could have some friends come over to your basement dwelling and dress up as the ultimate-est, bestest wizards and elvish rangers and play the awesomest round of D&D in like, forever.
5) Why play the Sims? You could just live your life.
6) Why play Age of Empires? You could study history instead.
7) Why play Gran Turismo? Go Go-Carting instead.
8) Why play NHL? You could go hire some guys to kick your ass instead.
9) Why play Final Fantasy? You could just daydream about Jessica Alba instead.
10) WHY LISTEN TO MUSIC? YOU COULD JUST USE YOUR AWESOME GUITAR SKILLS AND MAKE YOUR OWN.
To quote myself in all due fairness... I unlocked Flyleaf's "I'm So Sick" on Rock Band last night... ROFL. I had no clue it was on there.HITNRUNXX wrote:

I have a real problem with Christian music... not the quality of the music as some is quite good but more the holier than thou attitude of those listening to it. Or is it that people think the "other" music is evil and will damn your soul to eternal darkness with fire and brimstone?
I grew up listening to the hardest most savage death metal when all my classmates where shouting "Twisted Sister and Motley Crue Forever!" and now I'm a Buddhist, a pacifist, and I still love metal and I love violent video games. it doesn't mean I'm going out to raise the dark lord or mow down a high school with my uzi because I heard Ozzy say so by playing his music backwards. It's fucking asinine the way the self righteous religious types need "there own special label" on things in order to feel accepted as a part of the church. It's keeping up with the Jones's... Jesus style. It's also a convenient way for Christians to get around their own moral viewpoints. Christian game servers anyone? Posers I say.
Rock is rock, regardless if you believe in God or not. All you need to do is shred and I'm there.
The Christian right vs. Everyone else is going to be the next big conflict in the USA in the next few decades. Thats why we need more than two parties... there are plenty of conservatives who just shouldn't be in the same group as far right christians.
