How much joules are required to kill a man?
It's for a project.

I remember that it actually gave the number of joules needed to melt a man in my physics book last year...

I don't remember how many it was though.

If i remember correctly, a Joule is 23.7 foot pounds per metre.

So if you go exponential from there, im sure anything over 100 COULD be fatal.

But bullets never kill people, the occurring injuries do.

as in energy?

depends on the method of transfer, if the energy is transmitted via radio waves, they'll esentially pass right thorugh you, while an electrical shock can kill fairly easily with a few hundred watts.

or are you talking in the form of heat? I'd assume enough to boil water, or in a more extreme case, break carbon-carbon bonds

That a difficult question, as joules can take on so many different forms...

kinetic, electical potential, chemical/heat, ultraviolet radiation, low frequency magnetic waves, caustic shockwaves, they all have different thresholds for causing physical damage.

I think this is related to the bullet thread he made earlier.

well, even a .22 at a low velocity can kill if it impacts a vital organ...

Which is why this conversation fails if that is the case.

depends.

Are you raising the temperature of the person, as in a bad fever?

Are you electrocuting them? (then it's a matter of Amps and Volts, and where the current is flowing through)

On a side note:  WTH is with all these threads asking for help with "school projects" to "electrocute someone", "build a fully automatic railgun", etc?! Damn..
Hay gais, how do I build a working nuclear fission bomb? I need it for a physics project tomorrow.

fission?

easy...

1.  wrap a piece of heavy uranium with high explosives

2. wrap the explosives in an extremely strong metal shell

3. detonate all explosives simultaneously.

Oh, in that case, that's easy..

1) Have France build you a nuclear breeder reactor
2) Have Pakistan or India sell you their centrifuge plans
3) Hope to high hell that Israel or the USA don't bomb the fsck out of your reactor
4) Hire some out of work Russian nuclear physicists to build your bomb.

Now, could you be more specific?
Manhattan project A-Bomb, H-Bomb.. Russian Tsar Bomba.. Neutron Bomb.. Dirty Bomb.. enhanced fusion multistage hydrogen (my favorite, similar to Tsar Bomba) ??
Next question .. man portable, missile delivery, ground transportable, or stationary(suicide reactor)?
he said fission, so im guessing tactical <10kt uranium based weapon.  With the reactor and centrifuge, you should have it ready pretty quickly

that being said, he should try to build a heavy hydrogen fusion bomb to outdo Tzar Bomba for total yield

*waits for FBI*
