Right, so my router goes bad. I've gone through the setup 3-4 times and when it tries to connect to the internet I get "IP Address Error" it tells me to restart setup and try again...I don't think so, not for a fifth time assholes.

I try to reset the router, but that doesn't work. The reset light never flickers, and I get the same error when running the setup.

Ok, so I try the command prompt. I type ipconfig and it comes back with all zeros for the IP etc etc. I type release/renew and I get the message

"This action cannot be completed with the hardware not connected" Well, thats odd, I HAVE everything hooked up correctly.

Try different cables you say? Did that. Three times.

Netgears tech support guy who I swear lives in Bangladesh, says it was purchased last November and the one year hardware warranty has expired.  He tells me if I have the receipt showing I purchased it earlier then a year, they can do something about it.

So, what the hell? After a year, if your product goes to shit there is not a thing the manufacturer will do for you!?

If it goes to shit shouldn't Netgear have a department for repairs?

So why don't you provide a receipt?  If you bought it less than a year ago, then it shouldn't be a problem.  I keep all my receipts for my hardware during the warranty period.  If you don't, and the manufacture date doesn't indicate less than one year, STBU.

Wat?

And, its been a little over a year. But I was ranting anyways. I would think they would have a department to send it to so they can at least fix it and send it back.

In all honesty it probably wouldn't be worth it to you to pay them to fix it.  It could possibly cost more or almost the same to fix as to buy a new one and then you would have paid double for a refurb.

Had netgear routers for the past 5 years- ploughed through 2 already, this is my 3rd, and I sense it too, is on its way out.

Linksys next time me thinks.

If you know the transfer rates should be higher, inform your ISP.

OT: Move to Europe and get a few more years \o/

That, and don't buy netgear equipment. Ever.

Netgear = questionable reliability.

some of my friends get all sorts of crap with their netgears, one does an idle disconnect every 20 mins no matter what.

The only fix for it is to get a new netgear, but you really should just go for a different brand (suggest: billion)
