Ok, so this is just a random question because I'm curious more than anything...

Does anybody know what real world air to ground weapons those bombs with the air braking fins represent?

I believe the MEC or USMC fighter/bombers drop them on Operation Clean Sweep for example. They're the slow moving bombs you see popping four fins out in a 'X' shape just before they kill your ass dead.

Actually in a related question is it at all possible to shoot bombs with weaponry while they arc in?

Not sure I understand your first question.
The bombs do exist. They are meant for low level bombing. They are designed to impact well after the plane has left the target zone. Always find it intersting that the bombers in BF2 take alot of damage from these bombs. Bomibing from a low level with standard 'slick' bombs will damage, probably fatally, the aircraft that dropped them.

Kung Jew, thanks for that. Damn I thought they were Mk 80 dumb bombs...just couldn't find any mention of the retarder fins on Wikipedia.

#2: Yes, you can shoot bombs while they are in the air, it's damn hard though!
I've done it with an APC deliberately and and ERYX accidently. I think you'd need something with explosive rounds, like a tank shell, apc cannon, grenade launcher...

they are meant to slow velocity down, usually they put fins on runway bombs

Maybe later i'll slow down the bomb speed and shoot them to see if they blow up...
