Okay wtf.  I just reseated my heat sink... it was idling at 42C..

Now it's idling at 43C and goes up to 48C when browsing BF2s.

I have a zalmann cnps 9500 and thin layer of AS5... (applied using a thin line spread with a razor blade.)

Is this normal?

I've heard that my 680i might take the temps higher or something? bah!

Did you clean the old paste of your CPU and heatsink with alcohol?

43C Idling is good and 48C under stress is not too bad. Anything under 60C is ok, I think that E6600 can stand over 60C but it is not recommended.

Browsing BF2S shouldn't put too much stress on a CPU like that tho
Do a real stress test and check the temperature again.

If it's very high you either have a bad CPU or a bad sensor.

If its one of the first E6600s then you got a problem. Those E6600 are very faulty, erratic and cannot be overclocked or cooled well.

I've got an E6600. I'm currently idling at 41 while using firefox. I used Zalman ZM-STG1 thermal grease.

you are supposed to put a little pea sized dot on the processor. not spread it, that can create air bubles. did you break in the thermal grease?

Take the temp using a few different monitors, mine all show up different on every one i've tried. Nv monitor says  35 but coretemp says 45 !
dunno why

I should clean out my computer, it's idling at 51 right now
edit: I forgot I was doing a spybot scan, so that contributes to the temperature too.

My e6400 reads 47 running a rootkit scan and browsing bf2s.

*Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

My e6600 is idling at 38* on the stock cooler lol...

EDIT: Dropped to 37* (i've just closed TF2 so it's cooling down a bit)
