Ryan D. Barnwell and Cortez Robinson, both 22, were released from prison Friday morning after spending 3 1/2 years behind bars. The two pleaded guilty to child molestation after attending a 2003 New Year's Eve party with Genarlow Wilson, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for having oral sex with the girl.

Wilson, now 21, was freed Oct. 26 after the Georgia Supreme Court ruled that that his sentence was "cruel and unusual punishment." Georgia law at the time of his trial required a minimum of a decade in prison.

The case prompted lawmakers to change state law to make such cases a misdemeanor when they involve teenagers close in age.

With the release of Barnwell and Robinson, all but one of the young men involved in the case have been released from jail. Frankie J. Henry, 21, remains in jail on an additional charge.

First things first... In Europe, pedophilia is obviously still looked down upon, but it is generally treated as a mental illness rather than just a criminal act. Attempts to treat these people are made, and it is generally easier for these people to be identified by the more progressive societies (like Norway), so that less children will be abused than otherwise would be.

America still seems a bit less coherent about dealing with pedophilia, since we even go so far as to have crass TV shows about it.
