Well, as you may or may not know (or care for that matter), i got 2GB more RAM and an iPod Touch 16GB for Christmas.

Ive got the RAM installed and running, but on Vista x86 im only seeing 3.25GB of it, so i need to install Vista x64.

Ive been hearing generally good things of 64bit support and so am not too bothered in going for it, however ive heard iTunes doesnt like it. Googling a bit, i see some people claiming fixes, but they seem to be completely different procedures each time, and i can not be sure which version of Vista (some are refering to beta days), and which version on iTunes they are fixing.

So, whats your experience of iTunes on (Vista) x64?

Same EXACT problem. x64-bit Vista. iTunes tells you to download a 64-bit version of iTunes for it to recognize your iTouch, (I got an iTouch 16gb too yesterday)

I'm waiting it out until they come out with a new version of iTunes, whenever that will be.

In the meantime, I'm using my older iPod, as a mobile hard drive to transfer music/videos to an old laptop (XP-32bit) to then put the songs onto the iTouch. I know, it's painfully slow. But it's the only way I've found around it.

I've had no problems with iTunes and 64x Vista.
Are you sure you have downloaded the correct version?

I'll check if I have set any compatabilities...
Edit: no compatability settings.

It's the fact iTunes doesn't offer a 64-bit version of itunes, er at least one that's compatible with 64-bit windows based systems.

It may or MAY NOT work for everyone.

Ex) iTunes works fine with my old 60GB iPod video (2 Years old) However, it fails to accept my iTouch.

I run itunes on vista 64bit in XP SP2 compatibility mode. Works perfectly
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Just checked, you're right.
I've just never had any trouble with the whole 64bit thing. *knock on wood*
Might want to try XP SP2 compatability though.

Okkk.... so you can get iTunes to run, what about devices (iPods)?

I was thinking im gona have to run a Windows XP x86 Virtual Machine inside Vista x64 just for iTunes...

It would be worth the while, seeing as how one of my iPod's works fine with iTunes, while the iTouch does NOT. Also, my iTunes cannot burn discs. I've attempted to run in compatibility mode, no difference. Try compatibility mode before you run a virtual machine.

No problems with my iPod.
Though I'm propably going to start using Winamp for that purpose soon to get rid of the only piece of Apples shitty software on my PC.

I had to follow this:

to get it to work.

iTunes has worked fine for me for the last 2 or so years that Ive been using a 64-bit OS.  The only thing it didn't like was my iPhone,  but I think thats because Apple specifically doesn't want to support 64-bit Windows.  They haven't said if they would make the iPhone x64 compatible, and they don't even warn you before buying it. I had to drive to my brothers house just to activate it.

Works on my iPod Video 5.5 though, but I use Winamp to load music anyways....

tl;dr - iPhone wont work on Windows x64

Yep it works fine for me too, Vista Ultimate x64.. It's all working fine including my 2nd gen (or was it 3rd) iPod nano. You might just want to try it first before attempting a Virtual machine... And REDevilJR, if it fails to accept your iTouch, have you tried updating iTunes?

Latest version. Tried in compatibility mode also, no change. Gives me a message saying it cannot burn cd's upon startup of the program every time, and whenever I attempt to plug in my iTouch, it tells me to download the 64-bit version of iTunes. As said before, works fine with my iPod video from two years ago.

Nope, iTunes doesn't work at any version on Vista 64-bit. Nobody has been able to modify it or DIY it either. And, it doesn't seem like Apple are in a hurry to work on releasing a version specifically for Micro$oft- it's not in the interests of their own OS .

I can deal with the error message and lack of DVD-ripping features anyway. Who the hell uses iTunes as their DVD burning/ripping software. Daemon Tools / Nero Ftw!

-.- if you would've read the topic you would see quite a few people to which it does work, including me...
