I almost did. I just had a german shepherd die last month, so it was pretty hard seeing his dog limping like that and then having to strangle it. God. I don't think any movie besides United 93's ever evoked that much emotion from me.SamTheMan:D wrote:
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Did you cry when he had to kill his dog?
Yeah, along with that 20 second fuse.Volatile_Squirrel wrote:
Good not great. Will Smith actually acted in this film, and his daily routines and interaction with his dog were entertaining. But.....the horrible CGI nearly ruined it all, and the abilities the infected had were ridiculous.
Oh, and that C4 grenade he used in the end was interesting.
No 20 second fuse, when you pull the pin, it doesnt start counting down. Only when you release the "spoon" does it then trigger it. Depends on model of course. Then again the explosion it produced was quite amazing for a hand grenade.haffeysucks wrote:

Oh, really? Whew, never knew that. Haha explains a lot.r2zoo wrote:

Because they're stupid ass infected dogs.haffeysucks wrote:
But yeah that was a huge explosion anyway. And why didn't those demon dogs just run across the sunlight line when it was like a foot wide?

that's insight right there, nice. Might go and read novel now...Uzique wrote:
I watched a stream of the movie off the Internet (high quality leak, was only up for a few hours... saved to hard-drive anyway) and was impressed with it as a Hollywood movie. As far as blockbusters go, this is pretty much spot on. Grandiose storyline, epic setting, massive production costs, a fantastic lead actor, the odd interspersed moments of action and big bangs to keep the action-genre lovers happy, and a deeper more thoughtful theme.
But, the only reason I was interested in watching the film in the first place was because I had previously read the novel. The novel kicked ass. In comparison, the movie really didn't. The movie deviated from the plot of the novel (which was ingenious to be fair), and instead started to just clone movies such as the non-Hollywood British '28 Days Later'. The original 'I Am Legend' novel is much more similar to Blade, if I had to make any Hollywood allusions- and the entire Goddamned point of the 'legend' part is that the protagonist reaches the climactic conclusion that he himself has become an even bigger legend than the vampires (note: VAMPIRES, not mindless Resident Evil zombies)- through his actions, and then realizes the entire primal fear-based morality of mankind. This film went way off the mark when it came to plot, and I'm not really sure why. If you're going to make a novel adaptation, why remove so many key elements and make it into a complete deviation of the original? The book was widely acclaimed and was a classic in its own right... so why the hell did they decide to make another (slightly) generic man vs. city of zombies movie? Boooo!
Because I already knew beforehand the reason why the main-character becomes AN HERO / AN LEGEND, I thought that the way in which they tried to wrap it up in the mountain colony-- with the cheesy "He saved us... we are his legacy, he is our legend" -- was utter tripe. It was cheesy, rushed, and a full on cock slap to the original author of the novel,- who actually had a point to calling him a legend.
At the end of the day, I think it boils down to the subliminal theme of the novel being too high-brow for the mainstream audience. I don't mean that in a patronizing or pejorative manner. I just mean that your average movie-going fan doesn't necessarily want engaging, complicated and complex plots/themes; they just want big explosions, a lead actor that can make witty humorous comments, and perhaps the odd titty flash here and there.
100% correct. I was just laughing at the end because it was so bad. The infected looked like crap. Should've used life ones like in 28 days later. The thing with the light ruined it. Movie could've been good. You just can't top 28 days later ^^.Zimmer wrote:
The film was awful. It was a terrible copy of 28 Days Later; along with the worst ending I have ever seen.
It was hollywood spewl. Only Will Smith saved it from being utter fail. His mesmerising performance saved teh day for me. But never again will I watch that crap. The infected actually made me feel sorry for them, the reverse of what I was meant to feel : fear.
If you liked that part then you will appreciate this top notch acting.Zilla wrote:
great movie. reminded me of Castaway. (the part where he was losing his mind from being alone, not the infected, or the beingstuckonaisland part.)

Yep, saw in the cinema yesterday, by accident though.
I clearly said I wanted a ticket for American Gangster, turns out she gave me I Am Legend, didn't see that one before anyway so no big deal. I really did enjoy the movie, loved the dog To bad it died, though there are some flaws in the movie, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, PLEASE LOOK AWAY That he cut himself loose, he lands on his knive and he has to crawl, but suddenly he gets up and runs, kinda weird. Rest of the movie was just great

Fuck - you just spoiled it. I was about to go and watch it. Not saying your fault. I guess, I should have known there would be spoilers here. Oh well.Bull3t wrote:

Probably like some sort of fucked up Hibernation seeing as they can't do much when it's day time. It was a pretty cool way to show just how fucked up they are imo.PBAsydney wrote:
I thought it was pretty good, had a few good scares there and there, I was practically shitting myself when he went inside the dark house to get his dog. (WTF were they doing inside there anyway, you know, they were all in one big group, sleeping standing up or watching something?)
Seeing the comments above I want to read the novel and compare it with the movie.
