Been thinking about this over time and wondered what the general thought of it was.

STFU - Shortened for: Shut the fuck up.

When you say it or read it, do you think it means: Shut the fuck up!
Or do you think it's someone saying: Stuff you! In an abbreviated manner?

It was originally used to shortern saying Shut the fuck up, but has been so overused -
People forget that, it is just an abbreviation, not someone saying Stuff you in a Capital and Anger vented way.

What do you see/read it as?

I personally see it as Shut the fuck up, only because I have been thinking of this for some time now.
Used to think it was Stuff you, when I didn't really use the abbreviation.

Well, I think of "Shut the fuck up", but I read it "Ess Tee Eff U" in my mind. Same with GTFO, etc.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I use it jokingly all the time, so def second option. Pretty sure I've even said it to my mum so......

Acronym, not abbreviation.

And I pronounce it as a word, but that's because spelling netspeak out takes ages, and taunting people when gaming would take most of the match.
