Let me start by saying it was this very message thread that made me register to the BF2 forums.

I'm going to guess that most, if not all who posted here, are under the age of 20? Anyway, it really matters not - fact is, you're young - nothing wrong with that.

New Years: Whether you felt it sucked or not, it's all a matter of perspective. Depends on your life, how complicated it is, and what you've been through. Maybe not kissing a girl for the third year in a row, and not getting drunk is a "big deal" to some (hell, I'll be honest - I can remember being 17, lonely, no girl, etc.) While I never was a drinker, and still don't to this day, there are times when I wish my life were as simple today as it was then.

Imagine being a little older - old enough to have a few kids. You're married, and one year you are left for "the other guy." It's a fact of life, and happens to many. Undoubtedly, some of you here will have the very same happen to you. It's not pleasant. While I've been able to rebuild my life somewhat since that all happened, each year since, I have not had the pleasure of spending New Year's with my kids. While I make every effort to be a part of my kid's lives, I still can't shake the thought that I am now the chump that is a part-time dad & paying heavily for it.

Perspective. What sucks to you can be like a dream vacation to some. I wish I had your problems of being young, naive, and not having been kissed in a while. No one wishes for my situation.

Advice: It's rare that the younger generation ever listens to the older guys (I'm not a grandfather, but old enough to be considered one not to listen to). However, enjoy what you have now. Enjoy the simplicity of your lives - for in a few very short years, it ALL will change. Oh, and if anyone ever tells you "life is what you make it" - you know you have met an eternal optimist that can't identify with reality if it kicked them in the arse. "Life" sometimes just happens to people. There is no ryhme or reason. Rich people aren't always smart. Sometimes luck has played a big part in their fortune. Your sports & big screen heros aren't always stellar people. Sometimes great things happen to nasty people, and sometimes bad things happen to great role models. Fact is, many people don't have a clue of where they're headed, and many stress way too much about it. The best part is, there's nothing wrong with it.

Maybe 2007 wasn't so good for you - but in the years to come 2007 might seem better when you look back. I've had some pretty rough years - it'd make some of what I read here a godsend. All in all, 2007 was great - it had to be - things couldn't get worse.

There's a song by Baz Luhrmann titled "Everybody's Free (to wear sunscreen)" - it's not one of those songs you can really party to (actually, it can be depressing). It's not something most of you will even like. But if you get the opportunity, listen to the words. When you get to where I am in life, many things in the song begin to make a lot of sense & take on meaning.

Anyhow, good luck to all in 2008.

Agreed. No matter how shit you think your year has been you should be thankful you aren't lying on a hospital bed dying, which is the situation for many ppl in the world. As long as you have good health you can always turn things around for yourself.

Well..

Here's the catch:

We were an item in 1999. I ended the relationship pretty much 8 years ago to date. The reason was a stupid one, that of a 19 year old. Now, aeons later (about a month ago) I find out that she's a friend of a friend, and that I've actually been the subject of a discussion not long ago (a "do you know him/her"-discussion) - in which I've received an honourable mention. So I decide to write to her, and find out that she's recently become single again, lives in Helsinki, and is planning to move back to Turku (my home town) soon.

So I decided to have a New Years partay at my place yesterday. Not many people, just a small gathering. And to my surprise - there she was also. She apologized for not announcing to me that she'd be coming too. I really didn't mind - hell, it's been 8 years! And she looked good. Man, did she look good.. We talked, a lot. I started to like her, again, after all this time. All I can hope is that she likes the "new" me also. There were definite signals, but one can never be sure, can one? She left at 6 AM this morning with her friends. Nothing happened, we hugged and I told here that I want to see much of her in the future. She agreed.

But first:

She went back to Helsinki today, where she'll be for the next 2 weeks. After that, she's leaving for Thailand - 3 weeks. On her return, she's attending a course which involves an x amount of time abroad. Odds are, I'll see her - briefly - after a minimum of 6 weeks.

Now I'm feeling totally and utterly.. ..f***ed. Damnit.

[/emo]

I'm hoping for a good 2008. As soon as she gets back here.
I need around tree fiddy.
