not sure where this topic should lie but for xbox live instead of getting a wireless adapter could i put the ethernet cord into my laptop and use that as a wireless adapter and be able to get on live that way??

alright umm to get on xbox live you need to buy a 100 dollar wireless adapter(if your not close enough to computer to use ethernet cord), well i was wondering if instead of buying the wireless adapter if i could put the ethernet cord into my laptop(which has wireless internet) and use it as a subsitute for the wireless adapter. sorry, hope that wording helps a little.

No, You need the adapter for the Xbox, or run an ethernet cable from the box to a modem or router.

You should be able to, as long as you can configure the laptop as an internet gateway.

I do this for my second PC. I only have one cable hooked to my router, but two PC's on the net. I have a dual ethernet on my mobo, so I just connected a crossover cable and configured the second port as a gateway.

In order for this to work you'll have to be able to set up TCP/IP settings on the Xbox, and I'm not sure if you can do that.

no, the xbox has a special firmware that makes it useable only with the xbox wireless adapter. trust me, i've tried

That sounds like more trouble than it's worth if you don't know how to work that kind of stuff.

Start button -> Settings -> Network Connections
Right-click the appropriate connection (likely your Wireless one)
Click the "Advanced Tab", and check that first box.

Reboot laptop & Xbox, make sure they're connected with a CROSSOVER ethernet cable (not the regular kind), and you should be good to go

No you can run it through a lap top. I saw it on the Xbox forums a month or 2 back
