I logged in today, been playing for awhile then i come off for abit, i come back to playing and try to log into a ea uk official uk only server and it says cd-key is not valid, so i try other servers.. the same, after trying 30 servers and restarting the pc several times i re install the game with the same cd key, yet again the same problem, i dont know if this is a bug.. like the ones we get when the servers are down or playing up.. but has anyone else had this problem? i'm unable to play bf2 now, and for any addict thats plays they will know how very very bad this is hehe, so please anyone who has ever had this problem or has this problem, please come forward with your help or views on how to solvle this.

I had this exact problem the other day, actually: was playing before I went to the pub, and then tried playing when I got back - and it said my CD-Kay was invalid.

First off, I'd back up all your config files (they're in My Documents/Battlefield2/profiles/, and then usually in the 0001 folder). You then need to uninstall BF2 (and SF if you have it) and then reinstall all from scratch, in this order:

BF2
1.02 patch
1.03 patch
SF
1.12 patch

This is by no means the only way you can do it, but this is what worked for me.

This should solve it. If not, then it's probably an expensive phonecall to EA customer support. Let us know how you get on.

happen to me before I just re- enter my key and it worked fine  goto C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Support   then click the Battlefield 2_code icon and away you go

You can post this into wiki too, if you like (you are also free to correct the typos and spelling errors ).

Solving CD-key issues:
If you got 'invalid CD-key' error after patching or without any obvious reason these tricks might help you.

First try this: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=10959
Note: Don't write the braces that are in the EAs examples and if you have SF use that CD-key in BOTH ergc folders! The correct format for the values is x9392ABCDABCDABCDABCDABCD (That ABCD-thing is of course your CD-key. Note don't write the '-' charaters!)

If the first advice didn't help then my best guess to solve your problem is manually update your Punkbuster.
To do this visit http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php Run the Windows setup file, add
BF2 to the program, hit the 'Check for updates' button, launch SF and (hopefully;) start playing!

If these didn't help then uninstall BF2 and SF, reboot, reinstall BF2, reboot, install SF, reboot, install newest patch, reboot, start the game (if error still exists try both earlier advices) ... and if it still won't work throw your computer out of window (note: first check out that no one is beneath your window!).

Installing problems with SF or patches:

Problem: The patch or SF wont install correctly _AND_ your WINDOWS account name contains special characters (eg. Scandinavian characters å, ä or ö).
Solution: You have to create another Windows account to install the game and the patches. To do this: open Windows Control Panel, select User Accounts and 'Create a new account'.  Make sure that your new account name contains only characters between a-z. Use that new account to install the game and patches. Note that you can still use whatever account you wish to play the game!
