I hate the BCS
I find the commentary of the announcers of this game, initially, being "surprised" at how Georgia has so obliterated both sides of Hawaii. I realize that it is their job to introduce tension to the game, so that viewers do not turn it off ... but ... c'mon. The announcers sounded like idiots. Hawaii's season statistics and their undefeated season is WAC-based (one of the weakest college football conferences) mixed in with some games against losing teams from stronger conferences (and they barely won some of those).
And, they are playing against Georgia from one of the 2-3 strongest football conferences - the SEC - in the nation ... and (I believe) Georgia is the best football team in the SEC (sorry LSU).
So, of course this game would turn out like it is turning out.

The saddest thing from this is that instead of people saying how fucked up the BCS is, and this slaughter fest proves the point more than anything, they're just going to use it to reaffirm their system saying that, see, Hawaii didn't belong there or deserve their ranking. Which is not true because as bad as the game was, they earned their spot. But next time the WAC champ goes undefeated you can bet it's not likely to get invited to a BCS game even though they deserve it.
I don't think that's true. It is always possible that a strong football team could emerge from the WAC, and thus they should be given a shot. Boise State was strong in 2006, but Hawaii just was not in 2007.ph4s3 wrote:

Boise State had a very similar season in 2006: they won the WAC with an undefeated season AND they beat non-conference Oregon State (9-4) & Utah (8-5). Boise State in 2006 looked like a potentially strong team going into the bowl season, and indeed Boise State beat #8 Oklahoma in last year's Fiesta Bowl.
However, nothing was pointing to Hawaii in 2007 being a strong team. Looking at their non-conference opponents, they beat No. Colorado (1-11), UNLV (2-10), Charleston Southern (5-7, but basically a high school team), and barely beat Washington (4-9). So, they didn't look to be quite the powerhouse that everyone imagined ... they didn't appear to be the 2006 Boise State team.
Hawaii's 2007 reputation was based on the 2006 Boise State team, IMO.
The BCS has been fucked up since it's inception. There was no way OU should have been in the title game after getting their ass handed to them by Colorado in the Big 12 Conference title game. I'm so fucking sick of the polls and the BCS that I really want a playoff system like Division II and Division 1 basketball and baseball.
