The quick test shows the 8800GT leads about 27% comparing to 8800GS. But their price gap is about 50% in our local market.

The price of 384MB 8800GS and 768MB 8800GS is 1199CNY(165USD) and 1499CNY(204USD). Price is simular to HD 3850, so we can expect a mid-end VGA card war is incoming.

Nvidia's latest offering may appeal to those who are a little strapped for cash.

Those are two totally different things. PCI-e 2.0 refers to the bus specifications for power, speed, signaling, etc. The reference to x16 refers to the physical slot size. And to answer your question, yes PCI-e 2.0 hardware is backwards/forwards compatible in older PCI-e 1.1 boards, as are PCI-e 1.1 hardware able to work in PCI-e 2.0 boards.

The G92 based card should really be the 8900GTS, 8900GT, and 8900GS. Nvidia did the exact same thing to G70 that they did to G80 (shrink it and slightly improve it), and changed the G71 based cards to 7900 GTXs, 7900GTs, and 7900GSs. This precedent suggests they should do the same here.

Yeah. I'm so glad circuit city hires 16 year olds, and i'll be working in their computer tech dept most likely so even more savings will probably come.
