No, I'm not investing in a wheel.  Keyboard is just lame.  That leaves the MS Sidewinder gamepad that I've used for my PC racing games, but it has now worn out.  It decides whether or not I can turn left, depending on its mood.   I've had recommendations for the XBox 360 controller that is PC compatible.  Any other suggestions?

The only one I have tried is logitechs, and it seemed to do a satisfactory job.

I actually have that though I never use it for anything.

I use a recoil game pad ... it was cheap ... very similar to a playstation controller.

Playstation and Logitech controllers seem a bit small.  For gaming marathons, a slightly larger one is better.

I hear good things about the 360 controllers. Plus, with the long throw triggers, makes em sorta ideal for racing.

Good point.  I think the 360 controller wins then.

hold on with the 360 controller. for whatever reason, the triggers DO NOT function as buttons with a pc. they function as a Z axis.

Use a 360 controller.

Seriously. So much fun using one with FSX and other shit.

Couldn't they just be remapped?

I use a Logitech ChillStream. It is basically a 360 controller for about half the price with a fan and vents that you can turn on to keep your hands cool. Nice Christmas gift from the wife.

Basically same as 360 controller, but cheaper...

Which is exactly how they are supposed to work.

Isn't that obvious? They're analog inputs, they need to be an axis. It's the most sensible way of mapping them, ESPECIALLY for racing.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would prefer my throttle and brakes to be on an axis and not a button...

Why won't you get a wheel? It's 10x better..

More expense which I can't justify right now.  At some point I may get a wheel, but I'd want to get a good quality one, so more $$.  Until then, I've used a gamepad for racing for quite some time.

exactly. I currently use a PS2 controller but some games can be difficult because of the buttons for gas/ brake.  I plan to get a 360 controller for the triggers so can can have throttle and brake control instead of on or off. (I'm also to cheap to buy a wheel)

Making the 360 controller ideal. The triggers are really responsive, so throttle management is a piece of cake!

What racing games do you play on the PC?  I was under the impression that almost all good racing games, like Forza and Gran Turismo, were consoles only.  Sure there's NFS on the PC, but I like driving simulators, not driving arcade-style games.

I own the whole NFS series, just picked up ProStreet.  GTR2 is supposed to be good and I've been looking for TOCA3.  Though it's an older game it has many varieties of racing series in it and allows fine tweaking of the car.  Forza would be nice on the PC and I wouldn't mind Gran Turismo for PC either.

Picked up the 360 controller tonight, guys.  Thanks for all your posts.
