No. You have a certain amount of leadership required for commanding and maintaining the men and matériel at hand. If you double the size of the branch by rolling one into another, then you need to increase the size of the leadership and overhead in the other to accommodate the increase in manpower and equipment.Burwhale the Avenger wrote:

The navy is relatively unneccesary in the current war climate (an organized, well-armed force against insurgents), aside from carrying aircraft from place to place. The marines are relatively unneccesary in that they are performing virtually the same duties as the army.
Malloy must go
And to set the record straight. The United States Marine Corps is a Department of the Navy. The men's department.

My dad was on the USS Forrestal, and whenever anyone would ask him how "the boat" was, he would say that he kept boats in the hanger bay. Navy guys serve on ships. :-prdx-fx wrote:

you got land water and air very different armies needed to provide SPECIFIC types of job needed for combat
From all the videos I've seen, the Marines are a hell of a lot more effective then the army. But, I've never done any extensive research. I've always thought the Army was a bunch of panzys.
ARMY = Aren't Ready to be Marines Yet.

Doesnt it make sense just getting rid of the Air Force? Just make things the way they were back in WW2. Army and Navy could both just have their own specialized Air Corps.
until we can't even stare straight... If you were with my squad; its drink untill you black out near comatose.deeznutz1245 wrote:

Air Force. Big Black Hole of unneeded funds, and their job can be fulfilled by the other services.
The four services are fine, the way technology is now. Better engines and intersolar travel may see a merging of the Air Force (despite the fact that it came from the army) and the Navy, both of whom will probably want a space flotilla. Either that, or a fifth branch will be created to fill in the gap.
Strategic Space Command, anyone?

leave the branches as they are, they all have their own important jobs to do which can't be replaced. The starwars branch will have to wait a long time probably untill we can actually colonize other planets in this solar system / we meet other lifeforms.

Because it's wise to wait and put something together only when you needed it yesterday.dayarath wrote:

well I suppose we will have interplanetair wars inbetween our own solar system before we meet other lifeforms, but there ofc is a small possibility there weren't any wars we never needed starwars ships and we meet some kind of hostile lifeform. Altough I doubt the lifeforms we first meet will be hostile, the ones that'll be hostile will be us probably.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Every branch has a vital role in protecting our country. . . . even the Coast Guard (which you left out) is important!!
Gunslinger is right, interservice rivalry is healthy!!

I agree totally, they also need to spend their money on aircraft development more wisely, I mean the F-22 has so many flaws and once the computers fail the plane just crashes, dangerous stuff. + it's way, way more expensive. They should just make role based aircrafts which are simple but extremely effective with less production cost.rdx-fx wrote:

For the price of one F-22, you could buy
150,000 x New HK 417 rifles (to replace the jam-o-matic M4's)
-or-
10 x New AH-64D Apaches
-or-
50 x New M1a1 Abrams tanks
Let me reiterate that once.. For the price of a single F-22, you could buy every member of the US Marines a new rifle.
($150mil per F-22 , 159,000 Marines currently in service, roughly $1000 per rifle)
One F-22 or 159,000 Marines with new non-jamming, very accurate, higher caliber rifles.
gee.. which do you think will do more damage?

What about the peace corp, man?
I don't see the point in your Marines. They just seem to do what the Army do in Iraq, which is fight on land.
you're either stupid or you're just stupid.jord wrote:

Yeah I don't really get it either. The Marines seem to be everything though. They have their own planes, helicopters, boats, tanks and stuff. If anything, there doesn't need to be a jack of all trades thing like that. I thought it was simple. Army = Land, Navy = Sea and Air Force = Airjord wrote:

Now if you're gonna have Marines which is all three. Well, you don't need all four branches of service.
Idonno lol
