My girlfriend will soon upgrade her PC... Will this 8800GS be faster than the various types of 8600??
Hell yeah! But why does your girlfriend need a better card than a 8600? Is she into gaming? If not: total waste of money.
she is. i saw them stats padding together.

']['error - my girlfriend does NOT have a 8600, she has a very old PC and will upgrade it soon, I'll handle the upgrade for her, so I was thinking of getting a 8600 for her new PC (or this new 8800gs...), and yes, she's into gaming (a bit, so she will need a decent video card).

.Sup - o rly? we stat pad in bed only lol

decent is not equal to a top-level videocard for some serious $. She is going to run games on the new PC, but not Crysis So, probably a 8600 would be enough (I currently see 8600 various types as the minimum for entry level gaming PC's and that's what's needed in that situation.)

This chart is excellent in GPU comparing for gaming needs: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_ … ;chart=318

It shows that the 8600 really is shit, and you are better off getting a high-end DX9 card. The 8800GS is not there yet, but it will probably be placed at around Ati HD3850.

I say this is a good value-for-the-price -card.

Why can't the industry be more specific in its naming conventions, and why can't the stores be more clear on specifications?

Thank you. On newegg they sort their cards by pci e 16x and then pci e 2.0.

The people saying it's ugly - it is a preview/sample. It is not a retail card...

But Palit/Xpertvision cards usually DO look like this in Europe

Simple worn-out standard green PCB, a rather big alumnium heatsink either coloured black, blue or golden and a moderate fan. Thus, they're usually also about 10-20€ cheaper than the rest and they very often offer greater overclocking potential due to their heatsink. Imagine investing those 10-20€ into an aftermarket gpu cooler like an Accelero S1. That's an option, one should always consider
