Don't use it for flashing or it will corrupt the BIOS permanently. I have seen way too many ppl having screwed up their Asus motherboards with it so I want to warn you guys NOT to use it.

warnings all over Asus support forums. USE EZ-FLASH METHOD - ASUS UPDATE HAS CORRUPTED MANY FLASHES

be safe, use ez....

OK, I never ever actually intended to use the Asus update option

btw, the Asus site is great and full of content, but sometimes I can't open it!! Do you have such problems? I think it really does down sometimes...

My brother's P5K died that way too...

off topic: Anyone else who thinks Asus site blows? It's nearly always down, the few moments that it isn't it loads so slow and if you actually manage to start a download it's just going in 10kb/s (which is a bit pathetic if you usually download stuff in 1000+ kb/s)

Um, from where do you run the ASUS Update utility you're warning people about?

If it's something ran from Windows, I'm not surprised if it's a Vista bug, or simply because the OS is loaded. Those utilities are never safe.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Always used it, never had an issue.

Although I download the bios first as oppose to letting the utility get it itself.

I've always used EZ Flash. But it's pretty well known that flashing from within Windows is a good way to brick your computer.

ASUS has one of the worst corporate sites of all the bigger technology companies. It's a mesh of weird and often dead links, and thirty second loading times. Really frustrating. Their forums have official warnings against using ASUS Update to flash the BIOS everywhere, but they continue to box the product with that feature enabled with their motherboards. They make decent hardware, but they really need to get their act together with their customer relations and their website.

My P5K died using EZ-Flash. D: I was lucky enough to get the later revision with 0503 on from the factory as a replacement. The first revisions with the 0201 BIOS were very, very, very borked. It reported memory timings of something like 36-45-28-18, and often failed any flash. Seriously crap.
