Soooo... I'm trying to find a somewhat decent laptop for my grandfather that isn't overly priced (that is, not over €800 preferably).
He mainly just has alot of Word windows open and perhaps an encyclopedia or two, so he doesn't need *too* much.

Now, I've seen a rather nice one in the local supermarket here for €749, This one, but it has a Pentium Dual Core instead of a Core 2 Duo.
The only difference I've spotted thus far is that it's a 32-bit processor instead of a 64-bit one.

Would it be a good thing for him, or should we keep on looking for a Core 2 Duo?

Yes, it's actually quite a big chain. They have a tech department with computers, GPSes, ...

When I think supermarket, I think computer deals.

No, that's wrong, I think food.

Pentium DC is indeed 64-bit.

Numbers:

E-series are the desktop variety, whereas the T-series are for portables.

If you were to look out for a Centrino Duo, it might be a good compromise as they fall in between the two. These are in fact Core (1) Duos and are a lot better than Pentium DC.

Edit: Its not an Aldi is it? They have fucking everything.

Over 700€ for something containing a PDC... I wouldn't go near it.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
