I have a problem that is starting to annoy me,

XP drops my mouse (mouse turns off and the *dun dun* sound that indicates that a USB device has been connected/disconnected plays)...

It drops it and then picks it up again 1 second later,, I have tried to uninstall all drivers, changing USB port, changing mouse and it still does it with BOTH my mouses.. (a MX518 and a MX310 from logitech)

I am starting to become very frustrated and I was hoping you guys could help me because i am really not up for Reinstalling Windows since this is my parents PC too....

Help me please before i start crying

UPDATE1:
It seems that windows is picking up some kind of "ghost" hardware in the form of a mouse,, it shows up in the list of hardware (mouse settings), i uninstall it, but everytime i reboot it comes back :S

UPDATE2:
I tried looking in my BIOS settings and they say "USB Mouse support = Disabled"
(i have a MSI mobo)

Do you have one of those USB->PS/2 connectors? Try using one of those.

Get Vista instead.

EDIT: All potential joking aside, the only solution I can see - sadly - is a total reinstall. Although I'm sure someone with more knowledge and sense will come along with a far better solution than that.

I have, (4 actually)...

But that would only be circumventing the problem... not solving it...

And doesnt that reduce the DPI ?  i mean,, i know i won't feel a difference, but still,,,

Not sure. But I know one of my parent's computers works really shitty with USB mice, but works fine when it's in a PS/2 port.

Please notice the EDIT below that.

And I'm running Vista on this laptop from which I'm typing to you now and haven't had any problems with it in the week I've been using it - it's fantastic.

Define "Changing USB port"

It sounds like it could be a Case or MotherBoard issue... My old MoBo did the same thing when I used the front USB ports (though I had 4 front, it did it on all of them) and when I used things that extended my USB (Like plugging it into my monitor or my keyboard). The rear USB ports works fine though, and then with a new MoBo, 3 of them never had any problem and the 4th was completely dead. Later, I bought a new case and the 4th one started working fine.

Tried changing from one in the back to another,,, now running in the front....

I do not think it is the ports since my keyboard is now using the one my mouse first "dropped" at,, no problems with keyboard now though

Enable it! It's not going to change the frequencies your cpu runs at!

With me, the Keyboard worked fine, and a USB drive worked fine in them. I only had issues with the mouse and a USB headset dropping.

It won't hurt your system to enable the mouse in bios, though it is probably talking about during bootup /pre-Windows loading.
