To be honest, I don't. I just question why there civilisations were never anything great throughout history. I mean pretty much all of Asia and Europe have done great things, what about Africa.
It's a complex and debatable issue in the history community. Neither have the Americas produced anything that remotely resembles the European and Asian civilizations that have responsible for the growth of humanity, despite what the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incans had done. Mostly, it has to do with the levels of population, productivity of trade routes, need for progress, and local cooperation.

Yes - for those ordinary people/kids that have to live in hell, poverty, fear, starvation because of things beyond their control (weather, warlords, wars, corruptions, etc...)

No - for those that put if on themself by not taking advantage to move on when they can and for breeding, breeding, breeding, when they have nothing!!!!! I'm always amazed that when your starving the body (either man/woman) doesn't go temp infertile.

It's not a matter of deserving our help, it's about maintaining stability throughout the world.  We have trade interests in Africa, and we don't want genocide to start affecting it.  In turn, through our help, we can provide humanitarian help while preserving our trade interests.

Slightly, not as much as if it was Englishmen starving. Certainly not enough to donate my money. Probably because they don't know any different...

As long as we - the western world - are meddling in their business and profiting by exploiting them, we should also help them. And than one fairytale day when we stop exploiting them, we should help them for next, lets say, 300 years.

I dare say that if Imperialism never came about Africa they might be in better shape.

Not to be cold, but Africa needs to sort itself out.

No amount of money will fix the place.

Somalia in particular is a fucking Death Cult culture.
It'd take at least 40 years of enforced outside military presence to fix many parts of Africa.
You need at least 2 generations that know peace as normal rather than killing as normal before anything is going to be right in those regions.

Any western help is seen as unwanted influence.  Very much like a random good samaritan trying to get between an old drunk married couple at the bar - no matter how good your intentions, they're going to turn on the 3rd party with double the ferocity they were going at each other.
Good post some parts are absolutely rife with corruption, everyones scratching their heads on how to solve it.
Its extremely unbalanced how the 1st world compares to the 3rd in terms of opportunities and basic stuff. I wouldn't mind giving up a few things just so everyone can live with the same basic nessesities and stuff but thats fairytale bullshit. Meh what can you do.

someone doesn't choose to be born into famine, hunger and poverty. Africa is a relatively unlivable area. It does not have enough resources to support domestic communities.

Crisis. Real life is not a video game, even if it does have good graphics.

Of course you feel bad for them but the reality is that they have to grow up and learn to stand on their own two legs. In humanitarian crises throw them a few bags of grain but beyond that you're only mollycoddling them.

To be absolutely, brutally honest?

Not much. I mean, sure, it's not good, but this sort of stuff happens ALL THE TIME in Africa. War, genocide, drought, floods, food shortages, hyperinflation... I'm sick of hearing about it.

Some need help desperately and are in a nearly hopeless situation, some are socially, religiously, and mentaly backwards and will get no sympathy from me.

Africa needs a total overhaul of its political systems and regional borders...

Interesting that some of these bags of grain are intercepted by governments who do not want healthy citizenry that could get up the energy to rebel.

Very true, which is why total isolationism really doesn't hold up to reality.  If we ever expect Africa to evolve societally in many areas, interventionism is basically inevitable.

Too much generalization here.  You can't talk about Africa without understanding what is going on.  Thousands of years of tribal warfare and now those tribes have people with enough zeal and charisma (or brutality) to try to take total control of a region, usually by ethnic cleansing, that their ancestors have fought over for a long time.  And since the vast majority of the population is unarmed and quite poor there is little to do to stop these warlords from causing Rwanda type genocides.

Add to that that any aid, food, medicine and money that is sent there (even the red cross has had problems) is almost always stolen by these warlords then you have a very serious problem creating any kind of lasting change.  Africa needs a very large global military force to come in and just kick the shit out of the illegal armies, then they need to stabilize and restructure/rebuild the entire region.  Turn as much of the land as is possible into agriculture.  No nation is going to pony up for any part of that, regardless of how morally just it would be, they just won't do it.  Besides, having third world countries allows the leading countries to look good which is just a sick form of Yin and Yang.

Look at what the UN didn't do during Rwanda, and they had troops on the ground FFS but wouldn't use them.  The rest of the world doesn't give a shit about Africa... but they do like their oil.

you help africa like you help a junkie, you do enough to keep them going, but don't expect any change.
