As a rule of thumb, how much can I increase my Vcore Voltage when overclocking?

I can't remember if it's 5% or 15%.

5% sounds safer.

But i have no fucking clue.

Ah forget it, I'm going to leave it as is.  My mobo doesn't want me to increase the voltage.  Its either 1.4V or 1.58V, and 1.58 is definitely too high.

You should be increasing by...0.0025v as a rule of thumb as far as I can remember correctly.

Won't let me.  Look at the above post.  It's either 1.4V or 1.58V using the ASUS mobo OC.  No matter what number I set it at manually, the voltage stays at 1.42V for some reason...even if I want it to be lower.

I wouldn't touch the vcore unless you really know what you're doing... if you are set on getting a great OC, then I would increase it by the smallest intervals possible.  1.4 to 1.58 is NOT a good idea.

I went from 1.35v to 1.425v. For 24/7. I used to have 1.45-1.5v when I had my cpu fan at 100% all the time. now I prefer the quiet operation.
I don't get it why everyone thinks increasing vcore will cause end of the world... it doesn't.

it's not the end of the world but if you don't know what you're doing and have adequate cooling it could be the end of your cpu. also on his cpu on air cooling you don't really want to go over 1.55v for 24/7 use.

I'm running less volts than stock. Go me.

I can't increase by intervals.  I know what I'm doing, I just can't physically read it.  Read the other posts before you post.

What mobo you have? got the latest BIOS?

and 1.58v for hot AMD cpu is not a good idea unless you have water cooling. stick with the 1.42v if you can't change it.

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe.  The BIOS that came originally.  I was thinking of updating it.  Think that might fix the problem?

yes I think so. I can't believe you haven't had other major problems with the release BIOS. I had that mobo and the voltage settings worked with updated BIOS.

PS. Make sure the chipset fan spins normally. It is notorious for epic fails.

Ah, thanks.  I'll update it then.  I don't use the chipset fan though, cause I don't have passive or water cooling.

What? Why was that? I heard it was the maximum safe voltage for an AM2 processor.

For one, if you could read, you'd know that it was a 939 proc, not AM2.

Sorry on this end too, thought you were trying to be a dick and make me fry my proc.

I wasn't trying to make you fry your processor...it should have been a joke. Seriously, don't go that high, or 1.85.

I think 1.4 or 1.42 is a safe mark. I could put a post up on Tomshardware for you if you wanted. They have a lot of knowledgeable people who could help you.

No, it's okay.  I'll just leave it at the standard 1.4.  Thanks though.
