Some countries that employed the FAL, like The Netherlands, also used a scoped version of the rifle for "sniping" (argueably they were suited more as DMR's, but that wasn't invented back then ). Does anybody know if there were other differences with the unscoped/low magnification optics rifleman versions and scoped sniper/DMR versions? E.g. did the sniper versions had heavier barrels?

British L1A1 was equiped with SUIT scope - pre-SUSAT standart british Army scope. Dunno if it was DMR though...IIRC magnification was 3.4x
And no, DMR's do not have heavier barrels - they are just standart (but choosen from the most accurate ones at the factory) assault\battle rifles. Exept for DMR's which were created to be DMR's - SVD, QBB-88, and some other.
