Ok I have these speakers...    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =SP-021-LG

And i have this soundcard      http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … mp;subcat=

I want to set these speakers up digitally with like a Coax or Optical but I don't have a clue where to start.

Someone please point me in the right direction?

Do i need a better sound card?

ExtremeGamer has no digital capabilities ... i have one and i'm pretty sure there aren't any digital outputs.

First of all, I doubt your sound card supports optical or coax cables.

Optical In/Out looks like the two squares to the right:

Coax Cables:

You can get a 3.5mm jack to digital converter i hear... but i don't think that would be proper surround sound...

Is my best bet going with that sound card i listed?

I don't think you can use your speakers as surround using optical.

So no reason for these three not to work now?

Will digital sound better over just the normal 3 way cables?

Yeah, they will work together.

I have that soundcard, it's amazing, good choice.

They will work digitally (which is better quality that normal analogue), but not in surround.

It will work in surround.

Everything on them will be in surround - DDPLII for normal stuff, AC3 or DTS for true surround. You will need to configure your software properly, which will involve setting everything to SPDIF passthrough, so your speakers do the decoding. You can tell when you've got it right because it'll say Dolby Digital or DTS on the speaker display.

You can't do digital sound over the normal 3 way cables. Not properly (you can, but it's a bit rubbish).

All right fair play, the speakers broke so they are getting picked up on Wednesday to be repaired. And the sound card will be here on Wednesday so i can install that.

Cheers for help.
