Do you pull up faster than you pull down?
For instance, to go lower faster, is it quicker to flip over and pull up or just pull down?

Or am I being an idiot; there's no difference?

It is quicker if you flip over and then you pull up.  If you just pull down then it takes a little bid longer to decrease altitude.
