Go with XP.

That is one hell of a deal for a pre-assembled machine - best I've seen in a long time. You pay twice that for a machine of that calibre most other places. You would be able to shave off a couple of pounds, probably no more than a hundred, on building it yourself, but to be honest, it's just not worth the trouble if you aren't into building machines yourself. Get it!

Just this once i think its ok to get that rig, seeing as its such a good deal for what you get.

Even though Intel are alot better.

It has the second best AMD Dual core processor, AMD X2 6400+ being the best. It's ranked somewhat lower than Intel's top Dual Core CPU, but then again the AMD CPU's are cheaper.

Give with one hand take, take away with the other.

Its a good deal for what it is like others have said.  Anything above that you would be spending more for a performance increase that may not really be worth it.

Good deal, good deal. You won't notice the difference between top intel CPU's and that also damn fast X2 6000+ anyway, only in benchmarks

If for gaming purposes (as it seems to be), Vista 64-bit, since you'll get the DX10 on it.

(EWWWWW did I just recommend Vista )

if you're not into vista (and you're not since you are asking) you really don't want it

XP is my personal preference too, BUT for gaming on a computer like that, 64-bit Vista.

not really to be honest.

While Vista 64 does have it's upsides, I prefer the stability of XP sp2.. Vista's going to give me premature male pattern baldness.

LOL Thats computer pwns.
*Thinks how much could I get for my soul..*
Very, very good deal. If you're not bothered about dx10 then I'd definitely go for XP Pro 64 especially if you're thinking about getting more RAM in the future.
A Mate just bought similar system (but with moniter, wifi card, Vista pro (or whatever comparison is) and 2g more RAM) for £1,200 just 2 months ago I'm gonna show him that link and watch his face fall !!
