It's looking more and more like Kelly Tilghman is going to lose her job for a comment that's perceived as racist.
If you don't know, Kelly is an anchor on The Golf Channel. I watch her every day. I met her at the Masters last year. Really nice girl. She has known Tiger Woods for over a decade. She basically idolizes him and worships him on The Golf Channel. It gets nearly sickening.
When discussing how he was going to tear up the tour AGAIN next year she joked "if these young kids want to win they're going to have to take Tiger off and lynch him in an alley or something."
American blacks are up in arms and she's probably gonna lose her job.
I SERIOUSLY doubt she meant it in the way some are taking it. She might just as easily have said "somebody's gonna have to break his leg before he loses," or "he won't lose the U.S. Open this year unless someone cuts the brake line on his courtesy car."
Had she said "if anyone wants to beat Eduardo Molinari (Italian golfer) this week, they'll have to take out a contract on him," I doubt Italians would be crying about it.
So, here's the divergence that pisses me off.
This girl is going to lose her job. She has apologized profusely. She has been reprimanded by her employer, and she has been temporarily (allegedly) suspended from duty. She's getting harassed like it's going out of style. She's being vilified.
Several years ago American basketball superstar Charles Barkley (a black man, who I happen to like) was on TV as a commentator and said (direct quote), "I hate white people."
Not only did he not lose his job, he never apologized and was never reprimanded. He stood behind his remark.
How in the hell is this even close to reasonable, much less fair? You wonder what makes some white people bitter towards minorities of any type? Shit like this.
If you want to fire Kelly Tilghman, fine, but you damned well better fire Charles Barkley too...
