Honestly though, this is staggeringly stupid. This turns actual tragedy and heartbreak into a farce. Now no matter how bad this individual actually had it they will most likely be ridiculed and relegated to idiocy.

The only reason people sue for this money is the precedent the U.S. judicial systems has set in awarding it. We need to review our considerations of civil cases to eliminate pointless lawsuits such as this. Suing is so terribly overused by morons who are too lazy to get money through working or too lazy to improve their life. It is viewed as nothing more than the lottery, except with much better chances of cashing in. Until we alter this perception, frivolous litigation such as this will always exist.
