NO WAI!!!!! how can you say alien was a better movie man.. it and the God Father part 2 both  sequels that were better than the original.. but... I digress. that's another topic..

on topic - who can say? I reckon there has to be life else where given our present scientific understanding.  The problem is space is Big.. to say the least..
I like Alien and Aliens, but if I had to pick one I'd go with Alien everyday.  Ridley Scott is one of the best directors, if not the best.  Black Hawk Down Ftw!
I would say Aliens is my favourite out of the franchise.

Anyway I voted option 2.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Life somewhere out there? Almost certainly. Chance of making contact? Zero.
actually the chance of making contact could be certain aswell, atleast with one lifeform. I'm sure one day we'll be able to control wormholes effectively, we'd be able to travel from one edge of the galaxy to the other in just a split second. Our sun has alot of time left and we've booked significant progress in science over the past thousands of years, which is really nothing compared to how much time we have left.

There are aliens out there no doubt about it, we'll someday make contact with them I'm certain. Wether they've been here? There have been strange sightings but I wouldn't really believe it unless I saw it with my own eyes.

That's the sun. There's still.

Asteroids, Black wholes, Nuclear war, Global warming lol and plenty more stuff that could end human life.

The speed of light is just to slow to bother exploring space for life (that goes for us and for "Aliens" aswell). I am sure there is life out there, just not anywhere near us.

Personaly I fail to believe that in the whole of the universe we are the only 'intelligant' life, in all the millions of Galaxys and Solar Systems there's got to be something

I had to null vote - I think that there may or may not be aliens; there simply isn't a given assertion either way to me (very similar to the existance of God).

Agreed.  But James Cameron did a great job with Aliens anyway, then he made that hideous movie about that boat...
"White Squall" - I think? It so sucked.

Aliens was a totally different movie. Good in it's own right... just not as good as "Alien." (<-- IMO)
Alien is one of the only movies that actually scared me.  Aliens is more of an action movie, lacking the horror elements in Alien.

At the OP: I agree with you.  The universe is unimaginable in size, and for Earth to be the only life-bearing planet is absurd.  But for those same reasons, I don't think aliens have made any landings.

a black hole doesn't just suddenly come into existance, we have a way of fending of asteroids but if it fails we're fucked big time yeah, that's a risk (hopefully we solved this in the future). Nuclear war; alot of people will die but we won't be extinct atleast. Global warming won't kill us - even if it goes wrong science will make our living spaces adapt to the climate, like we always do. The chances of us surviving are really high enough.

I had to vote for "Good Movie but the first one was better" because none of the answers really represented my opinion which is:

We know...
*...space is open wide
*...not much about space BEHIND the visibility of telescopes like Hubble

So how can we "know" there are no other (intelligent) life forms out there!?
How can we be so stupid to say that we are the only ones?

My opinion is: space is too far to exactly know what's and what's not out there

Let me see...

- At least 1 planet/moon in our solar system with known life.
- ~100 Billion stars in our galaxy.
- ~100 Billion Galaxies in the universe.

Yep the odds are staggering that there is life out there.  It is also wholly plausible that our definition of life is not the only one.  Silicon based life for example instead of carbon.

Gladiator was better.
I think Kingdom of Heaven was more enjoyable than Gladiator for me.  Not to say Gladiator wasn't a great movie.

Honestly ... there are infact unexplainable incidents that can be from alien lifeforms, the scifi answer will have to be if there is a tech overwhelmingly superior to ours there is a good chance they have allready been here, many turnovers in the lifespan of the human race can be explained by a alien visit and a couple of recent incidents are plausible proof of existence like the two very intricate cropcircles from 2006 i think it was ... and no i'm not talking about the thousands of man made ones ...

The more scientific and also more likely answer would be as easy as a meteor with unknown bacteria or living organisms lands frequently on our planet but fails miserably at life because of the atmosphere we have ...

The infinite size of the Universe almost certainly guarantees that other forms of life exist out there.  However, the intelligence of that life is the big question.  Is there a species advanced enough to have already achieved interstellar travel or is most of it primitive in nature.  While I believe that we are far from advanced, due to the fact that we still kill each other en mass, I think we may be the first thinking, problem solving beings to have developed in the Universe.  Of course I'd loved to be proved wrong and I probably am but the sheer size of space and the difficulty of traveling through it is the reason why we haven't been visited yet.  Besides, why would an advanced civilization make the treacherous journey to visit us.  We have nothing of value to exchange with them, and they probably know enough to leave us be and let us develop for a few more million years.

there are other lifeforms, just not capable of coming here, even if they were, it isn't like we have a sign at every millimeter of the universe telling where earth is.

probably primitive lifeforms, advanced life form?, then maybe they are exploring space.

I saw some Mexicans early this morning so they are already here.

Beside, the Soviet is launching a probe to Europa(???) to see if it contains water and possible micro-organisms....we will find out if there is life in other planets.

HR Giger created one of the best sci-fi creatures ever in the first Alien.  I love his bio-mechanical stuff.  My buddy (who is an artist) claims the first Alien movie is/was his biggest inspiration -

I met H.R. Giger, when I was studying art, at the Art institute of Chicago (I think in 1982?). His art inspired me. I did some Alien-drawings myself (25 years ago), trying to emulate his air-bush layering technique, with charcoal and white chalk.

Of course there are aliens out there and they had visit the earth in the past.

I remember reading somewhere that during the 50's they made contact with USA and USSR governments. They agreed for a 50 years period of waiting and preparation of the human race, the cultural shock could have been massive at those times. Now, with enough aliens movies, games, sitcoms and toys, we are almost prepared, the only problem could be still the religious people.

do we have to wait until december 23, 2012 ?

With the vastness of space and trillions of billions of planets, there has to be life out there somewhere. It may just be single cell bacteria, but it's life.

Same opinion as me. It's almost impossible that we are the only intelligent forms of life in the extremely large universe
