Now, don't get me wrong here, Corpsman kick various kinds of ass.

But to be honest, I don't believe its fair that they have to rely on Navy personnel to tend to their wounds (no offense to Navy). Although a Corpsman gets familiar with the Corps, and are treated as one, they aren't.

I full-heartedly believe that the Marine Corps should allow soldiers to attend a Corpsman-like training if they are so qualified.

Ideas? Thoughts?

The USMC seems to act like its own branch (which it is, yet at the same time isn't) so I don't see why it shouldn't have its own medical.

I think that would be fine, though it is the sort of thing "If it ain't broke don't fix it". It might just cause more trouble than good.

I could see the USMC becoming more independant, but I don't see it as critical, or happening anytime soon. If anything, I see a further greying of the differences between the USMC and the USN, while the Air Force and the Army continue in their stubborn, stupid ways. (Semi-Joke, don't eat me, unless you're Gunslinger, who has permission to fool himself.)

If corpsman were replaced, would they (the Corps) oust all the jobs currently being occupied by the Navy?

I believe that anyone who even wants to try out for a medical position in the Military should be at least an EMT.

Because with EMT, you already know how to treat the wounds, bandage it, and protect it.. You can get the shooting part from Basic.

It seems like a good idea, but as Silent has pointed out, sometimes it's best not to use logic and leave the tangles web of buearocracy alone.

Question: Are you proposing completely replace Corpsmen attached to Marine Corps Units, or suggesting that in addition to an attached Corpsman, Mairnes be given the opportunity to recieve comparable training?

if you want to talk about conforting, I've got some good stories ................. we went through 6 docs in my enlistment only 1 was up to par ie. he could keep pace with us on runs, he could carry his load on humps, he had a basic knowledge of first-aid

the rest had a helluva time qualing with their 9mm, we had to seperate there gear to marines bc they couldn't handle the load, we would either have to push or pull them on runs, and knowledge ..... well thankful we get some first-aid classes in bootcamp and some {including I } have taken EMS courses

No, just throwing more experts into the field.

Basically, a grunt expresses interest in being a medic (or cool badass MC name for it), and he gets thrown into Paramedical School for 6 months, gets thrown back into his platoon with the EMS star embossed by his rank.

That way, the Marine and the Corpsman could work together, and have a wider spectrum of know-how to treat the patient.

corpsman have always been the marines medic. If it aint fukin broke dont fix it. My brother is a corpsman and my sister in law is and she will be in the sandbox in 14 days. Utmost respect for her. If i was lying on my back and i needed a medic or corpsman I would ask for the corpsman. Just more comfortable with them. Little side note.....everyone passing through basic training is now being qualified to give IV's and apply tourniquets. So all in all alot of soldiers can tend to most battlefield wounds. oh and pressure dressings too.
