I run my dell 19 inch lcd at 1280X1024 @ 70 htz, but it says optimum is 60 htz. What are the benefits/ problems at running at higher hrtz? will in lower fps? will it display more fps? Any help would be great, thanks.
It provides a faster refresh rate, which means a bit less flickering or a smoother image. If your monitor supports 70Hz I'd run it at 70.
rule of thumb for everything techy:
Bigger number = better.
My trusty old CRT runs at 85Hz :D

I thought the refresh rate for LCD's was irrelevant. I think it's more of an issue with CRT's, where you can actually see the screen flicker at 60 Hz. My 22" LCD runs at 60 Hz with no flicker though.
the more hz, the more pictures get displayed per second. However, on CRT monitors, Hz also means how often the screen has an image on it instead of being blank. The higher the Hz, the less flickering there is, thus the nicer it is on the eyes.
most desktop monitors can do 75Hz, which is a lot smoother than 60, assuming you actually get 75fps ingame. Expensive monitors and CRT's can go over a 100Hz which looks insanely smooth. You can only really know once you've seen it first-hand

Thanks for the replys guys. I guess I might as well run at 75 hertz then, since my monitor supports it.
Same. My old 19" CRT ran 1024x960 at 100hz, while I run 1680x1050 at 60hz on my 22" LCD.SpIk3y wrote:
