Hi, my first time posting in the Tech section so bare with me.

someting in my comp seams to get quite hot which i think is the cause for it to crash and restart everynow and then.

using speed fan shows 2 cores (i have an AMD 64 X2 dual core 4200) so thats understandable. the first of the two usually sticks around the low 30s, whereas the second is high 40s and sometimes goes to 50 degrees. so i bought a new heat sink which doesnt seem to make a difference. but looking at speedfan configuration bit it says the first "label" core, under "chip is AMD K8, whereas the sencond core says Nvidia Video card. and its this one that gets hot. Ambient is also down as Nvidia Video card too. so im confused and not sure how to resolve my problem

The temps don't seem that high. Maybe its the memory. Take one stick of memory out and turn the PC on.

It's your graphic card's core temperature. 40-50 is not too high, but if you want to lower the temperatures, get a better fan to it, or a case fan to feed air to the card's fan.

Completely normal and fine temperatures. You should stress them and see what they rise to. Like, run some benchmarks and check temps while it's running, that will show the "load" temperatures.

yeh wel i thought the temps werent that high etc, just it seems to crash when ive got a few programmes open...so yeh could be the memory then?

which are the cpu core temps then?

It is a dual core, but they both don't have separate temps. the AMD K8 temperature is the level for both cores.

ah cool

i could try taking out a stick of memory, but ive only got 1gb and i dont know a particular event/process that causes it to crash, so it'd be a lengthy process having to only work with 512 to see if it makes a difference :S
plus im at uni and dont have the funds to upgrade my memory
