I was just wondering what the general feeling was, from both users as well as mods, as to having a home work section placed on to the forums. I have noticed, now and then , that on the odd occasion, that someone will request help with home work. Since we have a great diversity of intellect on the forums, this could be a great advantage for those looking for help. What do you think? If we had this section, would more people ask for help? I strongly believe that most, if not all users, would genuinely help out.

- Homework section on the forums: whats your opinion?
I'd use the section.
i say hell no. do that shit yourself.
i dont think there are enough homework requests that we should make a whole section for it.
Sometimes people need a little help or maybe an opinion for a paper.ig wrote:

You would be surprised if there was a section for it. I think people don't post specifically because they don't think its appropriate. But they would if there was a section.Qrite wrote:

I say no, though. You have to learn for yourself.
I say no. Not enough requests for it. I see Zimmer's point but hell, any somewhat regular user should see the occasional "how do i getted hypotenuse??" thread.
edit: I myself wouldn't use it much... the only subjects I have trouble in are English and History, and those are with papers I must pledge to myself to never take an English course in college if possible... I don't know what I want to study but I do know that it won't involve analyzing poetry.

I'd start if there was one.Qrite wrote:

You know its proven that interaction with people when learning helps you.
I have math next semester and apperantly the teacher sucks.
So i would probably stop by every once and a while.

go to a tutor or a friend's house. yes, this is the age of the internet, but i feel as if some of you may rely on it too much. you need to learn how to do things for yourself while you're young. i guarantee you''ll be thankful when you're older.
Since when was it a "Do this work for me section"?ig wrote:

The section would be more for people asking about stuff they don't really understand, I never understood about the difference of a perfect square until someone actually walked me through it. I never understood what a hypotenuse was until someone said "You just times those by themselves, add them together and find the square root" then I could understand A2+B2=C2.
No but I think Heggs will correct grammar for you on IRC.
I know, I do.ig wrote:

Homework section,no.A homework thread would be better. We dont need a whole section for it.
Not grammar, more physics/maths stuff.SamTheMan:D wrote:

I am the grammar nazi.
If you seriously need help go somewhere specifically for it, such as this place http://www.physicsforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=152.
I think that if you need help you should most likely ask classmates or your teacher, no matter what they will be better than an online forum.

ok, but do you need a whole section for it? as long as there aren't people asking people to do their work for them, i see no problem in it.Hakei wrote:

There is a section devoted to Crysis, that's seen all of 1300 posts.
A homework section would eat up that amount in half the time.

No - because 90%+ of the homework threads so far that I have seen have been kids just being lazy....
... and as an employer I'm fed up of of just getting stupid, arrogant kids applying for jobs! use your brains ffs

Hell no, I'm not suggesting at all that we would do home work for other people I'm just suggesting another avenue for help.Zimmer wrote:

I say no, though. You have to learn for yourself.
For example.
You are taking a Philosopy class, the assignment is to write a paper on the morality of lying. You could come on the the forum and ask people what their opinions would be on the subject and incorpoate that feed back into your paper. It would be, in a sense, referred to as research, by polling real people on the subject.
I actually think it could be a good idea, but not if the answers were just handed out...rather hints than answers....or if its regarding a paper; a kind of evaluation of the paper could be good to have (depends on the person giving it of course)....I just handed in a paper where I could have use someone to read it through for grammar mostly, I don't think ppl could help with the subject though, but I am sure a lot of ppl could benefit from this at a high school level or something
I am an Archaeologist, specifically, my field is Physical Anthropology specializing in forensic osteology. If anyone needs some help in these areas, I would help. I also do a lot of work in Paleo botony. Why google when I have no problem answering questions. They are difficult fields.
i would use it, not necessarily to ask someone else to do it for me (which i have been guilty of in the past lol), but to ask for something maybe in math or physics or chem. to be explained, or ask for ideas, or just a general push in the right direction.
i am a junior in high school, and i'm willing to help people who have math(not calculus), science, java, or history questions.
I too am an employer.KylieTastic wrote:
