Hey,
My PC has been working great for a long time, but this morning, when I started up the game, I had unbearable sound, and video stutters. Thinking it was a COD4 problem, but I tested it on COH, and had the same problem. Now, im running Vista, but since I have been running the game without problems with Vista since the day the game came out, until up until today, I don't think it has anything to do with that. Normal sound applications work great, only games have sound problems.

My PC:
2.8Ghz dual core (Intel)
2 x 1 gig corsair ram at 800mhz
8600GT
X-fi Xtreme gamer

I think thats all thats really relevant. The new RAM was put in about a week ago, and I got the sound card for Christmas. No changes were made to any drivers between last night and this morning, but this morning is when the problem started.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Does your FPS drop or does the game just stutter?  If the FPS drops, then the problem is video-card related (most likely).  If not, then it could be hard drive, CPU, or OS related.  Have you checked temperatures?  Maybe things are dusty and overheating.

It's hard to say exactly what's causing this.  I'm just throwing ideas out there.

The only thing I can think of is poor ventilation, overheating Processor?  Every so often the aluminum heat sink under the fan fills with dust over time to clog it entirely.

That's all I got atm.

PC is free of dust, temps are fine. Strangely, I think it had to do from coming out of standby, after restarting it several times to no avail, I shut it down, left it for a few minutes, started it up, and played COD4 flawlessly for a few hours, still no problems. Thanks for the suggestions anyways.
