Just making another post to make sure this is noticed.

Little problem here, we are at 1858, that is more then I can afford. I can maybe fit in 1800, but thats a stretch, prefer to keep it at 1750 max.

Wondering something, there are 3 GPUs on this page, all 8800GTS, all EVGA, each better then the other. I got the most expensive, the one with the core at 670MHz. Now, if it is highly recommended that I keep this one, I will, I can probably squeeze the money out of parents, but if not, Id like to save the money, heres the list:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi … ;name=EVGA

Also, something totally unrelated. I just hit Ctrl something, and my font size just got a lot bigger. Im not 50 so Id prefer it back to normal, anyone know how?

Get rid of the sound card, buy a P35 based motherboard, and get a bigger hard drive. You may not need the space now, but you will regret getting such a small drive in the future.

Get the most expensive video card, since the other two are GTs, not GTSs.

Edit: Finally, get an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, for the heatsink. You will be able to overclock your Q6600 to 2.8 easily, and extend its life a little bit. It is also much easier to install than the stock Intel heatsink, which will probably drive you crazy trying to install. Make sure you install the CPU and heatsink outside the case.

Duh! Its 2:25 in the morning, so Im a little out of it. Must excuse me.

Umm, bout the hard drive, if in the future, cant I just get a new one, say, a faster one, use that for things that are gonna be used more, and use this one for storage?

I guess. It is always cheaper to get a 500GB drive than a 320 and a 160, though.

Im saying keep this 160GB as my storage. Say if I need the space, or I want things to run a little faster, Ill grab a 10,000RPM one, throw my games and OS on it, and use the 160 for things like music, movies, etc. Just the general storage that I wont be diving into every day.

Oh, I see. That would be a fine idea.

About the other things, why are you getting X38 for your motherboard chipset?

Cause I dont know much about motherboards, never have. Used to be up to date on everything else till about a year ago. Someone said it is gonna support the new chipset or something that is coming out. I really dont wanna have to replace my mobo. Im not sure if it is supposed to happen or not, but every time I disconnect my HD from my mobo it gets wiped. First time I did it I lost 18,000 songs(and about 100 dollars for those bought on Itunes). When, or if, I get a new HD, I plan to transfer everything to my moms 300GB portable HD, connect the stuff up, and transfer them back.

You will be able to save money by purchasing a P35 based motherboard instead, which still support 45nm processors and is cheaper. The only downside is a lack of SLI.

If you go this route, this, and this would be good choices.

Hmm, might be a good idea. I dont plan to use SLI, depending on the price of the next card Nvidia puts out, along with how it is rated, etc, I will probably trade in, so I dont plan to use SLI ever, at least not for years.

Question, whats the difference between PCI Express 2.0 and x16?

Im looking at the more expensive one, as it seems to be able to take more of the more modern processors. Am I correct in thinking this is the right course? Excuse my stupidity on this.

x16 is just the type of PCI-E slot, it hasn't got anything to do with 2.0. Older motherboards (like the Gigabyte-P35-DS3 and DS4) which are still not really old, I mean I have one and love it, only support PCI-e 1.0 or 1.1 Theoretically these are slower interfaces but no-one has noticed the difference yet Im afraid.. So youre safe to go with a good PCI-e 1.1 mobo
