Its a waste of time, and you could do better for your self by getting the job you want now, and keeping it.

if you figure, 4 years in the marine corps or 4 years in the job field you want to be in.  The 4 years in marines dont mean shit.  The 4 years in job expireance does.

In real world corporate america, no one cares about how many push ups one can do, along with if you can march with 70 pounds of shit for 10 miles.  The care about work history.  Now, if you are planning on commissioning as an officer thats a different story.  But enlisting is stupid if you have a job lined up in the career field you want to be in.

Pay equals shit in all branchs

4 years expierance will pay much more than any branch could give.

Besides, you dont want to be a tided up for 8 years.... BTW that how long it real is. 4 year active and 4 inactive which could be called up at anytime.  So factor in 8 years expireance.

8 years will land you a management job in any company if you know whats going on.  After 8 years in military your back at sq 1 trying to land a job.
It depends what your priority's are. I suppose if they're how much money you can earn then working in a civilian a job is more appealing.

Military experience (Assuming you didn't get a dishon. discharge) is usually very helpful in applying for a job... even though there aren't any civilian equivalents of being infantry, the leadership and determination skills are worthy traits for pretty much any job. Just look at USMarine's post.

1.) I only have 6 months left, so a GED would be a waste of time
2.) I'm not joining the Army

Also, my reason is that I have career critical classes I need to finish before I can do anything.

Stryyker, until the Marines are deployed along the border and the situation is brought under control any fight you find yourself in will be the wrong one.

Fuck it.

If you are thinking of being an aviator, you will have to have a 4 year degree as aviators are officers.  You can always go into the reserves and do the Firefighter thing along side being a United States Marine.  One weekend a month and two weeks in the summer is your commitment.  However, it sounds like to me you would rather do 4 years of active duty (4 more in inactive reserves) than being in the reserves.  Good luck with whatever you decide though.  If you need any Marine Corps advice, just ask.  I am happy to be of any assistance.

Join the Marines and you can sleep with the women in the Air Force, trust me.
QFT.

You want to be a Firefighter you say, well I'm a firefighter and I was a grunt. Crash Fire/Rescue would be Ideal, but not required, just the fact that you were in the military shows employers you're reliable and can kill somebody at 500 yards with an M16A4.

I say you go Aviator.

(First of all I would even join the army)

In the Air force at least you are more safe than those poor grunts that are going to get their asses owned by a mean sniper lol.

But something comes in my head, why do you even need to do school to go in the army, first, you arent going to use what you learned in school for the army, second you will die anyway.

Airforce, then go Commercial = Much more money than those poor guys that get owned by russian APCs.....lolo

You have absolutely no clue.  I could go into the fact that I have 8 years of Networking experience AND 8 years of management experience AND 8 years dealing with different people all from being in the United States Marine Corps, but that would just go over your head.

Not to mention you need a bachelors in something to get a decent job, not just job experience.

Wrong. I served one enlistment plus an additional year extension for training I received. In five years as an active duty grunt I earned enough college credits to put me two semesters away from my BS. So by the time I was 23 I had served 5 years in the Marine Corps and earned my degree. Coming out of high school if you go straight into the work force by the time you were 23 you would have 5 -6 years of work experience doing low echelon work if you don't have a degree. I was hired at the age of 23 into a management position supervising 30 year old men and women who had their degrees but couldn't tell a monkey from an elephant.

I think because you never served you have a misconception aabout what we do in the military. We don't just sit around and play cards talking about Mary Jane Rotten Crotch. There are 19 year old kids in the service that have a greater responsibilty than you cold begin to fathom and employers know that those kids become adults in the civilian work force and continue to perform at a professional level that only the armed forces could breed. I am 29 years old. I don't have the best job in the world, however, I am an executive for a large insurance firm and I am compensated well for my knowledge, training, leadership and fortitude that I received from the Marines by the way.

id do it for a few years. knock some discipline into you.

employers would take a marine with no experience over the slacker with 4 years.

go to college first, then join the marines or whatever branch you want. Plus you can't fly planes coming straight out of high school.
