Hi,

Well after 6 days of trying to sort me computer out I've finally got it stable enough to get onto a forum to ask for help!!

First off my specs :

ASUS M2N4_sli M'board BIOS 1203 running now with NVIDIA NForce4 (driver v6.70 (AMD))
AMD Athlon dual core 5000+
MAXTOR DiamondMax 10 ATA 300 GB (6VF300F0)
2 ASUS GeForce 7300GS (driver v 6.14.11.6921) The most up to date on the Nvidia site..
Geil 2x1GB 800mhz (gx22gb6400vpc)
hec 550w PSU

It all started after I decided there was way to much crap on my sys and my OS had got so crappy that I couldn't even search for files in windows (XP Home). So I bit the bullet and after backing up what I though was all the relevant stuff (rivers etc) I reformatted then re-installed. Afterwards when I got to the point of putting the Chipset  & Graphics drivers back on I found that the copy of the drivers i had was faulty (well too scratched to read in the drive) .
So I went to a mates house and downloaded some new drivers - that's when It all started to go wrong
As soon as I installed them I started to get BSOD's aaargh!! Not all the time but the more stuff I put on to the sys the worse it gets.

Some where related to driver issues and some where RAM problems, and there is also data corruption issues as well (reason for so many re-installs)

I did a bit of research of my own and found that there were some problems with Maxtor(now Seagate) and the Nforce4 chipset but this was back in 2006 and apparently it was resolved by a firmware update.
I've done the seatools drive test (both short and extended) and I have also ran the window DOS ramtest utility (6 and 3 passes) on simple and extended and both have come up with no errors.

I'm beginning to think that it may be the m'board at fault as I checked how hot the sys was running by touch after the last install tonight and the GPU's and CPU coolers are both at room temp where as the m'board cooler is too hot to touch for longer than 15secs.The interesting thing is that according to ntune (yeah i know a piece of crap...) the temps are as follows

CPU 28 C
SAYS 28 C
GPU 1 54C
GPU 2 49 C

which doesn't tie in with how hot the heat sinks feel.

Also I'm getting lag in windows when I have Ntune on as well and any attempt to watch a streamed film at full screen or run any big App or program results in a BSOD (switching between problems with hardware and problems with according to the Windows help site that comes up after I reboot (both seem to have a recurring IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL theme)

If it is the M'board then info on a AMD/SLI DX10 replacement would be great as well (gonna try and twist MESH's arm to upgrade it if I chuck a bit more cash their way).
If not then my budget will be up to £100 (£120 max for the absolute future proof pwnage)

Any help or suggestions would be fantastic and there is Karma for good suggestions.
In fact I'm that desperate that I'm prepared to be someones BF2/SF/COD 4 (when i finally manage to get it installed!) bitch for a night or 2 (Non aggressive scout/ decoy/ support (ie medic/ammo carrier) etc... (that's when I'm back up and running again of course)
YES I AM THAT DESPERATE!!! I'm getting computer withdrawl symptoms!!!

BTW TURDS > MESH computers

edit : added psu to specs

If your getting the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL while the cpu is not overheating, you could have a ram problem. Try buying some new ram and replace the old. Worst case scenario is that it isn't a ram prob and you need to replace a lot of components. You'll still have the ram already purchased though.

I call ram problem.  1st try 1 gb at a time, test each.

Then if that doesn't work go out and buy another stick of a different brand and test it

The RAM was a christmas present and is brand new from overclockers uk (you should check out their prices for RAM at moment!)
I've tried running them singly in all 8 configs and I have also gone back to me old unbranded RAM and done a full reinstall but no joy

IRQNOT<= is obviously hardware prob. Try single video card at a time. Do you have any other kind of hardware? I had a fax/modem do this to me once.

I did have a hauppauge wintv card in as well but i took it out acouple of days (and re-installs) ago as the hardware wixard kept starting after boot and when your rebooting every 10 mins it does your head in.
I'm thinking it could be the motherboard as i mentioned it's the only thing thats generating any sort of heat when the computer is at idle...
The stop messages are RAM based but as I said I've tried differernt configs and ran memtest on them too so I was beggining to discount that idea but the constant corruption of files has stoppped me from rulling that out.

Do you have onboard video? If so, try with that instead of the actual video crads.

Usually when you can't find the issue its the memory , try running http://www.memtest86.com/ to absolve the memory.

oh yes. I had bad memory compatibility problems with nforce chipsets that resulted in having lots of BSODs.... Although I did pass all the memtests and stuff...

Ok I had the exact type of problem with the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL thing. Heres how I fixed it. Formats dont work, you have to completely wipe the hard drive of everything. Download/buy WipeDrive Pro and burn it to a CD, boot the computer with the CD, erase hard drive, reinstall windows. You wont have anymore problems hopefully. At least I didnt.

I don't come here a lot anymore.

Check the MFT. "Get hold" of Diskeeper 10 (or later) and run the MFT/Page file extention guide (or something). I've gotten several IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL due to the MFT being full and prevenging Windows from writing to the disk. Also undo any overclocking and check the SATA/ATA controllers in BIOS. Reset the BIOS/CMOS settings.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Same here. I found that the BIOS would not pickup my correct memory timings with the last one. Setting them explicitly fixed it.

Thanks for feed back!

@jsnipy
ran that app and apparently ram is ok?!? so not sure if that's the problem but thanks anyway!
@ Dragonclaw

Thanks for the idea! didn'y use the program you suggested but ran seatools (seagates repair util) and erased the disk then reformatted it and it got rid of a random 8mb section that wasn't formatting through Windows set up. Now re-isntalled again and sys is stable enough to put some exrta programs on so touch wood it might be ok now *knock wood.
Gonna go for the big one now and install bf2

@Freezerpro

Thanks for advice not got aa clue what MFT is but if sys is still fucked I'll try diskkeeper and check the MFT (whatever that is!)
sys isn't Oc'd at moment and all BIOS settings are at default so time will tell!!!

I'll post again in a few hours and update the situation (thats normally long enough to tell if it's stable or not)

Thanks again for all your help!! I've always wandered what it would be like to chuck a TV or something out a high window and lately I've been pretty close to finding out, only things that stoppped me is there's no way I can afford a replacement (don't think the insurance company gonna believe I was using my sys to try and clean my windows when I dropped it!!)

Hope everything is fixed. I know how fucking annoying it is to be getting random BSoDs all day.

Well after 4 days on and off the phone to MESH technical support those genius's have come up with the same conclusion that I did ... ie the motherboard is goosed!!!
SO they want me to spend £35 + VAT on carriage so they can replace the piece of sh1t!!
10 secs of research got me this ...

http://www.baztex.com/product_info.php? … s_id=13241

So there's no way I'm gonna send it back to those useless pr***s for an estimated 7-8 working days (if you google MESH cust support you'll see why!!!) just to get the same crappy m'board back  that doesn't even support the RAM I've got properly (1.95 max voltage for DIMMS!! )
Well I suppose that'll teach me for upgrading without doing proper research!! On that note I'm gonna chance my arm and ask for some more help - advice on a replacement motherboard for me That'll fit into a ATX midi tower case and is future proof ie pci-e 2x16 SLI and works with the rest of my setup!!

I'm kinda running outta Karma after all this so the best I can offer is Kudos at the moment and my eternal gratitude!!!
I know this might sound really tossy but the quicker the better 'cos I'd love to get one ordered today!!!

Thanks again!
