I made a post a while back asking for help on which compnents to use to build a new computer and everyone was very helpful. I was going to go with a 8800 GT but am thinking about stepping up to a 8800GTS(640MB). I went to Newegg and was looking at the card but i am not sure what to get. Should it be for PCI Express x 16 or i remember one that was PCI 2.0? Can someone explain Stream Processors? I also wanted to to go with EVGA becasue of the step up program they have, and they sell an 8800 GTS KO and an 8800 GTS SSC, whats the difference?

Sorry if these are basic questions but i am still learning.

Go for the 8800GTS 512mb, it has the new G92 technique. The card is pci-e 2.0 but is compatible with your pci-e 1.1 slot on your motherboard.

Edit: and the 8800GTS 512 outruns the 8800GTS 640mb by far.

It has the new G92 core compared to the older G80.

And the GT out runs the 640mb GTS so it would be a step down to do that.

The 8800GTS SSC edition, essentially an overclocked 8800GTS with 640mb RAM (I think), and has extra stream processors, I think the original had 96 and the SSC has 112 (it certainly has more anyway).

But, I wouldnt bother with it, like error said, a 512mb GTS will out run even the SSC, and gives the GTX a run for its money.

I would defo buy either the GT or 512 GTS if I where you.

This is the motherboard i was planning on buying EVGA 122-CK-NF67-T1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i LT SLI ATX Intel Motherboard, so i am not worried with compatability. So then this is the one i will go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130312
